Colombian Football League System
The Colombian football league system is a series of interconnected football leagues for clubs in Colombia, and is governed by the Colombian Football Federation at the national level. From 1991 to 2010 there was a Categoría Primera C for amateur and reserve teams. Structure The Colombian league system consists of two categories. At the top of the pyramid is Categoría Primera A or Primera A, which consists of the top 20 teams of the country. Colombian Football Federation
The Colombian Football Federation (in es, Federación Colombiana de Fútbol) is the governing body of football in Colombia. It was founded in 1924 and has been affiliated to FIFA since 1936. It is a member of CONMEBOL and is in charge of the Colombia national football team. Categoría Primera C
The Categoría Primera C is the third division tournament of football in Colombia, which is amateur in nature. It is organized by the División Aficionada del Fútbol Colombiano (Difútbol), an entity dependent on the Colombian Football Federation (FCF). Despite being called Primera C and being within the federative football system, it does not grant promotion to the professional Primera B, which is organized by the División Mayor del Fútbol Profesional Colombiano (Dimayor). According to a study made in 2020, Colombia was the only country in the top 20 of the FIFA ranking lacking a third tier football league linked to its league system. The current champion is Total Soccer from Medellín, who won the competition's 2022 edition. The Categoría Primera A (), commonly referred to as Liga BetPlay Dimayor (between 2015 and 2019 ''Liga Águila'') due to sponsorship by online betting company BetPlay, is a Colombian professional league for association football clubs. It is the country's premier football tournament and sits at the top of the Colombian football league system. A total of twenty clubs compete in the league's regular season. Categoría Primera B, commonly referred to as Torneo BetPlay Dimayor due to sponsorship by online betting company BetPlay (formerly ''Torneo Águila''), is the second-division football league in Colombia. Format DIMAYOR has applied a new format from 2015 onwards because of the expansion to 20 teams in the Primera A tournament. The league will no longer have Apertura and Finalización seasons but rather a yearlong tournament with home and away games. The first phase of the tournament is everyone against everyone home and away games. The second is a two-groups phase with the 8 top teams from the season who play each other to determine the winners of each group. The winners of the two groups are both promoted to the Primera A and play the final in home and away games to determine the champion of the season. Colombian Women's Football League
The Liga Femenina Profesional de Fútbol Colombiano (Colombian Professional Women's Football League) or Liga Femenina BetPlay DIMAYOR (sponsored name) is the top level women's football league in Colombia. The first season was held in 2017, with 18 teams taking part. The champion qualifies to the Copa Libertadores Femenina. History Colombia women's football had only regional leagues until 2016. The entrant to the Copa Libertadores Femenina was decided in a tournament called Copa Pre-Libertadores, in which non-professional clubs took part. The winning team in all editions was Formas Íntimas. In 2016 a tournament called Campeonato Nacional Interclubes was held, organized by the División Aficionada del Fútbol Colombiano (Difútbol). About 40 teams played in four stages for the championship.
