College Hockey At The Joe
College Hockey in the D, formerly College Hockey at the Joe, is a series of college ice hockey events sponsored by the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League and hosted at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan. The marquee event is the Great Lakes Invitational, held around New Year's Day. The series was renamed in 2017 when the Red Wings moved from Joe Louis Arena following the end of the 2016–17 season. The Joe previously hosted the Final Four of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association conference tournament from 1982 until 2013, when the CCHA dissolved. The Joe also hosted the Final Four of the 2015 and 2017 Big Ten Men's Ice Hockey Tournament. Other events include an annual game between Michigan State University and the University of Michigan, a tradition that is still practiced in the new Big Ten Hockey Conference. CCHA Men's Ice Hockey Tournament
The CCHA Tournament is the conference tournament for the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA), an NCAA Division I men's ice hockey conference that originally operated from 1971 to 2013 and has been revived effective in 2021. The winner of the tournament receives an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament. The winner of the tournament also receives the Mason Cup, which was first presented in 2001. In other years, the trophy was known as the CCHA Tournament Championship Trophy. The tournament was first held in 1972, the first year of conference play. Central Collegiate Hockey Association
The Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) is a college athletic conference that participates in the NCAA's Division I as a hockey-only conference. The current CCHA began play in the 2021–22 season; a previous incarnation, which the current CCHA recognizes as part of its history, existed from 1971 to 2013. Half of its members are located in the state of Michigan, with additional members in Minnesota and Ohio. It has also had teams located in Alaska, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri and Nebraska over the course of its existence. Joe Louis Arena
Joe Louis Arena was an arena in Downtown Detroit. Completed in 1979 at a cost of US$57 million as a replacement for Olympia Stadium, it sat adjacent to TCF Center, Cobo Center on the bank of the Detroit River and was accessible by the Joe Louis Arena station on the Detroit People Mover. The venue was named after former heavyweight champion Boxer (boxing), boxer Joe Louis, who grew up in Detroit. It was the home of the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League and the second oldest NHL venue after Madison Square Garden until the start of the 2017–18 NHL season.
