Colin Powers
Colin Powers (born 2 February 1956) is a British former boxer who was British light welterweight champion between 1977 and 1979 and European champion in 1978. Career Born in London, Colin Powers made his professional debut in June 1975 with a win over Kevin Quinn. In September 1976 he fought Des Morrison for the vacant BBBofC Southern Area super lightweight title, Morrison stopping him in the fifth round to inflict the first defeat of his pro career. Powers was unbeaten in the next year, beating Joey Singleton, Clinton McKenzie and Efisio Pinna, leading to a fight against Morrison for the vacant British light welterweight title at the York Hall in October 1977. Powers had Morrison down three times before stopping him in the tenth round to become British champion. Light Welterweight
Light welterweight, also known as junior welterweight or super lightweight, is a weight class in combat sports. Boxing Professional boxing In professional boxing, light welterweight is contested between the lightweight and welterweight divisions, in which boxers weigh above 61.2kg or 135 pounds and up to 63.5 kg or 140 pounds. The first champion of this weight class was Pinky Mitchell in 1946, though he was only awarded his championship by a vote of the readers of the ''Boxing Blade'' magazine. There was not widespread acceptance of this new weight division in its early years, and the New York State Athletic Commission withdrew recognition of it in 1930. Wesley Lloyd Christie (born 28 February 1962), who fought as Lloyd Christie, is a British former Boxing, boxer who was British light welterweight champion between 1987 and 1989 and also fought for the European title. Career Born in London, the brother of Errol Christie, Lloyd Christie was based in Wolverhampton, and was managed and trained in Birmingham by Paddy and Tommy Lynch. He began his professional career in January 1981 with a first-round knockout of Steve Tempro. By the end of February 1984 he had won only half of his 28 fights, with one draw against Terry Marsh (boxer), Terry Marsh (the only fight of Marsh's career that he didn't win). Sylvester "The Master Blaster" Mittee (born 29 October 1956) is a Saint Lucian-British boxer of the 1970s and 1980s. He fought as an amateur lightweight and a professional light welterweight/welterweight/ light middleweight, winning multiple championships. Boxing career As an amateur, Mittee won the 1973 Amateur Boxing Association of England (ABAE) Junior Class-B title, while boxing for Crown and Manor ABC, Hoxton, London.
