Col De Vizzavona
Col de Vizzavona ( co, Bocca di Vizzavona) is a mountain pass at the centre of the French island of Corsica. Location Col de Vizzavona is located between the two major peaks on Corsica: the Monte d'Oro (altitude ), 3 km north-northwest, and the Monte Renoso (), 6 km south-southeast. The pass, located in the Regional Natural Park of Corsica, is traversed by the RN193 road and connects the Vecchio Valley with the Gravona river and with the Gulf of Ajaccio. Details of the climb From the north-east, the climb commences at the village of Vivario from where the ascent is long. Over this distance, the road climbs at an average gradient of 4.1%, although there are several downhill sections. Monte D'Oro
Monte d'Oro is a mountain in the department of Haute-Corse on the island of Corsica, France, one of the highest on the island. It is in the south of the Monte Rotondo massif, but is sometimes considered the summit of its own massif, the Monte d'Oro massif. Pierre Rolland (cyclist)
Pierre Rolland (born 10 October 1986) is a French professional road racing cyclist, who rides for UCI ProTeam . He is particularly known for his aggressive style of racing in the mountains. He is a two-time stage winner in the Tour de France and a stage winner in the Giro d'Italia. His most famous win to date came at Alpe d'Huez in the 2011 Tour de France. With his win on the legendary mountain, Rolland has his name on the sign at turn 16 together with Dutchman Joop Zoetemelk. His best overall finishes in a Grand Tour include 4th overall at the 2014 Giro d'Italia and 8th overall at the 2012 Tour de France. The mountains classification is a secondary competition in the Tour de France, that started in 1933. It is given to the rider that gains the most points for reaching mountain summits first. The leader of the classification is named the King of the Mountains, and since 1975 wears the polka dot jersey (french: maillot à pois rouges), a white jersey with red polka dots. Ajaccio
Ajaccio (, , ; French: ; it, Aiaccio or ; co, Aiacciu , locally: ; la, Adiacium) is a French commune, prefecture of the department of Corse-du-Sud, and head office of the ''Collectivité territoriale de Corse'' (capital city of Corsica). Bastia (, , , ; co, Bastìa ) is a commune in the department of Haute-Corse, Corsica, France. It is located in the northeast of the island of Corsica at the base of Cap Corse. The 2013 Tour de France was the 100th Tour de France. It ran from 29 June 2013 to 21 July 2013, starting in the city of Porto-Vecchio in Corsica, with the island hosting the first three stages. Corsica was the only Metropolitan region, and Corse-du-Sud and Haute-Corse were the only Metropolitan departments, through which the Tour had never previously passed and the organisers wanted to combine the 100th edition of the Tour with the Tour's first ever visit to Corsica. The opening stage was a standard road stage rather than the more usual Individual time trial or "Prologue". To accommodate the tour entourage during their stay in Corsica, the organisers chartered the '' Mega Smeralda'' cruiseferry to house members of the organisation, media and others who work on the Tour and to host press conferences, although the riders stayed in hotels in and around Porto-Vecchio. The Tour de France () is an annual men's multiple-stage bicycle race primarily held in France, while also occasionally passing through nearby countries. Like the other Grand Tours (the Giro d'Italia and the Vuelta a España), it consists of 21 stages, each a day long, over the course of 23 days, coinciding with the Bastille Day holiday.
