Cockett (electoral Ward)
Cockett ( cy, Coced) is the name of an electoral ward in the City and County of Swansea, Wales, UK. The ward is coterminous with the Cockett community. It elects three councillors. The electoral ward consists of some or all of the following areas: Cadle, Cwmdu, Coedweig, Gendros, Gors, Fforestfach and Cockett, in the parliamentary constituency of Swansea West. The ward is bounded by the wards of Kingsbridge and Penderry to the north; Cwmbwrla to the east; Townhill to the south east; Sketty and Killay North to the south; and Gowerton to the west. Following a local government boundary review, effective from the 2022 local elections, Waunarlwydd was removed from the Cockett ward to become its own ward (and community). As a result the number of councillors elected in Cockett reduced from four to three. Dai Lloyd
David Rees "Dai" Lloyd (born 2 December 1956 in Tywyn, Gwynedd) is a retired Welsh politician and GP. He was the Plaid Cymru Member of the Senedd for South Wales West from 1999 to 2011 and again between 2016 and 2021. Lloyd was latterly Plaid Cymru's Shadow Secretary for Culture and Infrastructure, as well as being Chair of the Plaid Cymru Senedd Group and Chair of the Senedd Health, Social Care, and Sport Committee. Media Wales Ltd. is a publishing company based in Cardiff, Wales. As of 2009 it was owned by Reach plc (formerly known as the Trinity Mirror Group). It was previously known as the Western Mail & Echo Ltd. History The ''Western Mail'' was founded in 1869 by the 3rd Marquess of Bute as a Conservative newspaper. 2022 City And County Of Swansea Council Election
An election to City and County of Swansea Council took place on 5 May 2022 as part of the 2022 Welsh local elections. Seventy five seats were up for election across 32 electoral ward, wards. The previous full election took place 2017 City and County of Swansea Council election, in 2017. Background Ward changes As the result of a ward boundary review, the number of wards were reduced from 36 to 32, but with the number of councillors increasing from 72 to 75, effective from the 2022 election. The changes were designed to make the ratio between councillors and voters more equal. Fifteen ward boundaries would be unaffected though a significant number of wards were merged or amended. The Mawr ward ceased to exist, it's communities divied amongst neighbouring wards and a new ward of Pontlliw and Tircoed created. Waunarlwydd ( en, The Lord's Meadow – ''arlwydd'' is a local variant of ''arglwydd'') is a village and community in Swansea, Wales, within the newly formed Waunarlwydd ward in 2021. Wendy Lewis Labour is the first elected councillor for the newly created ward which she comfortably won in the 2022 local elections. In 2022 Waunarlwydd became a community. The 2022 Welsh local elections are due to be held on 5 May 2022 to elect members of all twenty-two local authorities in Wales. They are being held alongside other local elections in the United Kingdom. The last elections were held in 2017. Background In the last local elections in 2017, 1,271 seats were elected. The Labour Party won 468 seats, independent candidates won 309 seats, Plaid Cymru won 208 seats, the Conservative Party won 184 seats and the Liberal Democrats won 63 seats.
