It is located in the Province of Vibo Valentia, within Calabria of southwestern Italy. The coast, also known as the coastline or seashore, is defined as the area where land meets the ocean, or as a line that forms the boundary between the land and the coastline. Nicotera (Central-Southern Calabrian, Calabrian: ; grc, Νικόπτερα, translit=Nikóptera) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the province of Vibo Valentia, Calabria, southern Italy. History The origins of Nicòtera lie with the ancient Greek city of Medma, which was founded by the Locresis of Locri Epizephyris. During the period of Ancient Rome, Roman domination it survived only in the form of the ''emporium'' (port), near today's Nicotera Marina. A Christian bishopric see is attested in Nicotera during the Middle Ages. In 1065 Robert Guiscard – enlarging his Principate of Salerno – seized it from the Byzantine Empire, and the town grew around the castle and the cathedral built under the Italo-Normans, Normans. Pizzo ( scn, label=Central-Southern Calabrian, Calabrian, U Pizzu), also called Pizzo Calabro, is a seaport and in the province of Vibo Valentia (Calabria, southern Italy), situated on a steep cliff overlooking the Gulf of Saint Euphemia.
