Coal (2019 Film)
Coal ( az, Kömür) – a film by Azerbaijani scenarist and film director Ismayil Munsif and by French producer Etienne de Ricaud. The use of Azerbaijani Turkic in the movie caused some obstacles. The film was not awarded at the Fajr International Film Festival. The director said that, this was due to the fact that the film was shot in Azerbaijani Turkic. Later, the promotion of the film was banned in the city of Ardabil under the pretext of promoting pan-Turkism. However, there was nothing promoting Turkism in the script of the film. A day after the banning ordered by the Irshad and Culture Department of Ardabil, the Turkic-language film "Coal" was allowed to be screened in Ardabil in the face of protests. About Coal, a joint production with France, was shot in Azerbaijani Turkic. The scriptwriter and director of the movie shot in Astara is Ismayil Munsif and the producer is Etienne de Rica. Azerbaijani Language
Azerbaijani () or Azeri (), also referred to as Azeri Turkic or Azeri Turkish, is a Turkic language from the Oghuz sub-branch spoken primarily by the Azerbaijani people, who live mainly in the Republic of Azerbaijan where the North Azerbaijani variety is spoken, and in the Azerbaijan region of Iran, where the South Azerbaijani variety is spoken. Fajr International Film Festival
Iran's annual Fajr International Film Festival ( fa, جشنواره بینالمللی فیلم فجر), or Fajr Film Festival (little: FIFF; fa, جشنواره فیلم فجر), has been held every February and April in Tehran since 1982. The festival is supervised by the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance. It takes place on the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution. The awards are the Iranian equivalent to the American Academy Awards. The festival has been promoted locally and internationally through television, radio and webinars; speakers have come from the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany. Ardabil
Ardabil (, fa, اردبیل, Ardabīl or ''Ardebīl'') is a city in northwestern Iran, and the capital of Ardabil Province. As of the 2022 census, Ardabil's population was 588,000. ''3 Faces'' ( fa, Se rokh – سه رخ) is a 2018 Iranian drama film directed by Jafar Panahi and starring Behnaz Jafari and Panahi as themselves. The film was produced despite a ban on filmmaking imposed on Panahi. It was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, winning the award for Best Screenplay.
