Clothing And Hat Federation
The Clothing and Hat Federation (french: Fédération de l'Habillement et de la Chapellerie) was a trade union representing workers in the clothing industry in France. The union was founded in January 1948, by a group of former members of the General Confederation of Labour-affiliated Clothing Federation, who objected to the influence of the French Communist Party in that organisation. It affiliated to Workers' Force, and also to the International Garment Workers' Federation. Throughout its existence, the union was led by Hélène Parmentier. By 1954, the union had 5,000 members. General Confederation Of Labour (France)
The General Confederation of Labour (french: Confédération Générale du Travail, CGT) is a national trade union center, founded in 1895 in the city of Limoges. It is the first of the five major French confederations of trade unions. It is the largest in terms of votes (32.1% at the 2002 professional election, 34.0% in the 2008 election), and second largest in terms of membership numbers. Its membership decreased to 650,000 members in 1995–96 (it had more than doubled when François Mitterrand was elected president in 1981), before increasing today to between 700,000 and 720,000 members, slightly fewer than the Confédération Française Démocratique du Travail (CFDT). Clothing Federation
The Clothing Federation (french: Fédération de l'Habillement) was a trade union representing workers in the garment industry in France. The union was established in 1892, on the initiative of the tailors of Nîmes. It affiliated to the General Confederation of Labour (CGT) and grew in size. From the 1920s, it began working closely with the Hatters' Federation. In 1941, the leaders of the two federations led splits to form a single, pro- Vichy government union, and were expelled from the CGT. The underground majority of the union continued, and in 1946, the hatters finally merged into the Clothing Federation. The French Communist Party (french: Parti communiste français, ''PCF'' ; ) is a political party in France which advocates the principles of communism. The PCF is a member of the Party of the European Left, and its MEPs sit in the European United Left–Nordic Green Left group. Founded in 1920, it participated in three governments: the provisional government of the Liberation (1944–1947), at the beginning of François Mitterrand's presidency (1981–1984), and in the Plural Left cabinet led by Lionel Jospin (1997–2002). The General Confederation of Labor - Workers' Force (french: Confédération Générale du Travail - Force Ouvrière, or simply , FO), is one of the five major union confederations in France. In terms of following, it is the third behind the CGT and the CFDT. Force Ouvrière was founded in 1948 by former members of the General Confederation of Labor (CGT) who denounced the dominance of the French Communist Party over that federation. International Garment Workers' Federation
The International Clothing Workers' Federation (IGWF) was a global union federation representing workers involved in making and repairing clothes. History The federation was established in 1893 at a conference in Zurich. The following year, it established headquarters in Berlin, moving to Amsterdam in 1920. It held conferences in different European locations every three to four years. In 1925, the International Furriers' Secretariat merged into the organisation, giving the organisation 29 affiliates with a total of 315,000 members. The federation ceased to operate during World War II, but was re-established in 1946, based in London. In 1949, it was refounded as the International Garment Workers' Federation, which in 1960 merged with the International Federation of Textile Workers' Associations to form the International Textile and Garment Workers' Federation. The Federation of Hides, Leather, and Kindred Trades (french: Fédération des cuirs et peaux et parties similaires) was a trade union representing workers in various related industries, including shoemaking, in France. The union was established on 11 April 1948, at a meeting in Paris. Its members split from the National Federation of Hides and Leather, unhappy with the influence of the French Communist Party in that union, and it affiliated to Workers' Force. It was initially led by André Derdos, who since February had been the secretary of the General Union of Hides and Skins of the Paris Region. By 1960, the union claimed 3,500 members. In 1962, it merged with the Clothing and Hat Federation, to form the General Federation of Hides and Skins and Clothing. Trade involves the transfer of goods and services from one person or entity to another, often in exchange for money. Economists refer to a system or network that allows trade as a market. An early form of trade, barter, saw the direct exchange of goods and services for other goods and services, i.e. trading things without the use of money.
