The Clinton County Courthouse is a historic courthouse located at 50 North Jackson Street in Frankfort, Clinton County, Indiana, United States. The Clinton County Courthouse dates from 1882–1884. It was designed by George W. Bunting, who also designed courthouses in Anderson (Madison County) and Franklin (Johnson County). The Clinton County Courthouse is a three-story, Second Empire style limestone building adorned with statuary and a 165-foot domed central tower with a clock. Clinton County Courthouse is located in Clinton, Iowa, United States. It was built in 1897 and added to the National Register of Historic Places July 2, 1981, as a part of the County Courthouses in Iowa Thematic Resource. It is the fourth courthouse that has been used by the county. History Former courthouses The town of Camanche became the first county seat around 1840. Hotels and houses were used for county business instead of a dedicated courthouse. In 1841 the legislature of the Territory of Iowa allowed for the relocation of the county seat. A new townsite in the center of the county called Vanderburg was chosen. A frame building was donated for court purposes. The following year the town's name was changed to DeWitt to further honor DeWitt Clinton, for whom the county was named. The Clinton County Courthouse is located at 53 East Main Street in Wilmington, Ohio. The courthouse is included in the Wilmington Commercial Historic District which was added to the National Register on 1982-10-14. History Clinton County was established in 1810 with the county seat at Wilmington. The courts met in various locations around town until the courthouse was finished in 1813. The courthouse was undertaken in two phases. The first phase was the masonry, with the contract awarded to Jacob Hale and the second was the wood work awarded to Mr. Sayres from Lebanon. The structure consisted of red brick supported by a stone foundation. A pitched roof rested on a red brick cornice with two chimneys to either side and a central cupola. By 1837 the county was faced with an expanding population and the need for a larger courthouse. Plans were sought by the county with the plans by John B. Posey, a County Commissioner, being selected.
