The Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM) is a private music conservatory in Cleveland, Ohio. Founded in 1920 by Ernest Bloch, it enrolls 325 students in the conservatory and approximately 1,500 students in the preparatory and continuing education programs. There are typically about 100 openings per year for which 1,000-1,200 prospective students apply. Many members of The Cleveland Orchestra serve as faculty at CIM and CIM alumni can be found in major orchestras throughout the United States and the world. Campus CIM is located in the University Circle, a four-mile square neighborhood on the east side of Cleveland. Mike Block
Michael Glen Block (born May 25, 1982) is an American cellist, singer, composer, and arranger. Career Block has worked with Yo-Yo Ma, Bobby McFerrin, Lenny Kravitz, Shakira, The National, Joe Zawinul, Alison Krauss, Rachel Barton Pine, and Mark O'Connor. Block plays with the Silk Road Ensemble. In January, 2014, Block married fiddler and composer Hanneke Cassel. He attended Cleveland Institute of Music (B.M. 2004) and The Juilliard School. Grace Fong
Grace Fong, D.M.A., is the American Director of Keyboard Studies at Chapman University Conservatory of Music and has an active solo and chamber music career. She also performs as part of the Selvaggi Trio. Fong grew up in Bakersfield, California. Her parents are immigrants from Taiwan. During the course of her undergraduate studies at the University of Southern California, Fong completed a double major and minor; she was awarded the Renaissance Scholar Prize, and was named "The USC Thornton School of Music Keyboard Department’s — Most Outstanding Student B.M." Aubrey Foard
Aubrey Foard is an American tubist residing in Baltimore, Maryland. Professional career Foard has been the Principal Tubist of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra since September, 2018. He is also a Lecturer of Tuba and Euphonium at UCLA, where he has taught since 2013. During the summer seasons, he teaches and performs as an Artist Faculty at the Brevard Music Center. From 2012 - 2018, he was the principal tubist of the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra. Chuck Findley
Charles B. Findley (born December 13, 1947 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania) is an American trumpet player known for his diverse work as a session musician. He also plays other brass instruments such as flugelhorn and trombone. His technical abilities and versatility are renowned even among other session players, with the celebrated session horn player and arranger Jerry Hey saying "Chuck Findley can play anything". A graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music, Findley's first professional work was with the Jimmy Dorsey Big Band before joining the Buddy Rich Band on a world tour. John Ferritto
John E. Ferritto (January 20, 1937 – January 7, 2010) was an American composer, conductor, and music professor. He graduated with honors in piano and violin performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music, and also holds a M.M. in composition from Yale University, where he studied piano with Ward Davenny, conducting with Gustav Meier, and composition with Mel Powell. He also studied at the American Academy in Rome and at Tanglewood, with Gunther Schuller, and Erich Leinsdorf. Donald Erb
Donald Erb (January 17, 1927 – August 12, 2008) was an American composer best known for large orchestral works such as Concerto for Brass and Orchestra and ''Ritual Observances''. Early years Erb was born in Youngstown, Ohio, graduated from Lakewood High School, a Cleveland suburb, and gained early recognition as a trumpet player for a local dance band. Following a stint in the Navy during World War II, he continued his career as a jazz trumpeter and enrolled at Kent State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in music in 1950. Three years later, he earned a Master of Music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music. Dennis Eberhard
Dennis Eberhard (1943-2005) was an American composer. In his youth he was crippled by polio, which contributed to respiratory problems that contributed to his death in 2005. Eberhard was an active composer for more than 30 years and was a member of the Cleveland Composers Guild and Vox Novus.
