The Clerk of the New York State Assembly heads the administration of the New York State Assembly. The New York State Assembly is the lower house of the New York State Legislature, with the New York State Senate being the upper house. There are 150 seats in the Assembly. Assembly members serve two-year terms without term limits. The Assembly convenes at the State Capitol in Albany. Leadership of the Assembly The Speaker of the Assembly presides over the Assembly. The Speaker is elected by the Majority Conference followed by confirmation of the full Assembly through the passage of an Assembly Resolution. The Know Nothing party was a nativist political party and movement in the United States in the mid-1850s. The party was officially known as the "Native American Party" prior to 1855 and thereafter, it was simply known as the "American Party". Members of the movement were required to say "I know nothing" whenever they were asked about its specifics by outsiders, providing the group with its colloquial name. Supporters of the Know Nothing movement believed that an alleged " Romanist" conspiracy by Catholics to subvert civil and religious liberty in the United States was being hatched. David Wilson (September 17, 1818 – June 9, 1870) was an American lawyer, writer and politician from New York. He is best known for his role in publishing ''Twelve Years a Slave'', as told to him by Solomon Northup, in 1853. Early life David Wilson was born on September 17, 1818, in West Hebron, Washington County, New York. He attended Salem Washington Academy in Salem, New York.
