Clear (Cybotron Album)
''Enter'' is the debut studio album by American techno group Cybotron, released in 1983. In 1990, it was reissued under the new title ''Clear''. In 2013, it was reissued under the original title, ''Enter'', with additional bonus tracks. Critical reception John Bush of AllMusic gave the album 5 stars out of 5, saying: "The collision of uanAtkins' vision for cosmic funk and the arena rock instincts of Rick Davis results in a surprisingly cohesive album, dated for all the right reasons and quite pop-minded." Lee DeVito of ''Metro Times'' said, "''Enter'' aims to do a lot of things here, but, thanks to driving drum machine beats, dancing and escapism almost always top the agenda." According to Miles Raymer of ''Pitchfork'', who gave the album an 8.7 out of 10, the album is "widely considered to be where Detroit techno began". Cybotron (American Band)
Cybotron was an American electro music group formed in 1980 by Juan Atkins and Richard "3070" Davis in Detroit. Guitarist John "Jon 5" Housely joined soon afterward. Cybotron had a number of singles now considered classics of the electro genre, particularly " Clear" and the group's debut, "Alleys of Your Mind," as well as "Cosmic Cars" and "R-9". Influences The group was inspired by midwestern funk, especially the music of George Clinton, along with German synthesizer pioneers, Kraftwerk, Japanese technopop pioneers, Yellow Magic Orchestra, English electropop, Italo disco and futurist literary influences such as Alvin Toffler's books ''Future Shock'' and '' The Third Wave''. Techno
Techno is a genre of electronic dance music (EDM) which is generally produced for use in a continuous DJ set, with tempo often varying between 120 and 150 beats per minute (bpm). The central rhythm is typically in common time (4/4) and often characterized by a repetitive four on the floor beat. Artists may use electronic instruments such as drum machines, sequencers, and synthesizers, as well as digital audio workstations. Drum machines from the 1980s such as Roland's TR-808 and TR-909 are highly prized, and software emulations of such retro instruments are popular. Much of the instrumentation in techno emphasizes the role of rhythm over other musical parameters. Fantasy Records is an American independent record label company founded by brothers Max and Sol Stanley Weiss in 1949. Juan Atkins
Juan Atkins (born September 12, 1962), also known as Model 500 and Infiniti, is an American record producer and DJ from Detroit, Michigan. ''Mixmag'' has described him as "the original pioneer of Detroit techno." He has been a member of The Belleville Three, Cybotron, and Borderland. Early life Juan Atkins was born in Detroit, Michigan. His father is a concert promoter. At an early age, he played guitar and bass guitar in funk/garage bands with his friends. After his parents split, he moved to Belleville, Michigan. In junior high school, he met Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson. The three would later be known as The Belleville Three. At the age of 15, he bought his first synthesizer, a Korg MS-10. Career Juan Atkins formed Cybotron with Richard Davis in 1980. The duo's debut studio album, '' Enter'', was released in 1983. Atkins and Davis split ways in 1985. Richard Davis (born 1952) is an American composer and producer of techno music from Detroit. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he and Juan Atkins met while students at Washtenaw Community College Washtenaw Community College (WCC) is a public community college in Ann Arbor Charter Township, Michigan.Cybotron in the early 1980s. "Clear" is a 1983 electro song performed by the American group Cybotron, and composed by Cybotron members Juan Atkins and Richard Davis. Commercial performance and reception Dennis Romero of ''Los Angeles Times'' in 1993 described the "Kraftwerk-sampling song" as " spired by Afrika Bambaataa's ..' Planet Rock' " and filled "with high-flying synthesizer loops, hard-driving beats and sparse, Chipmunk-style vocals-all elements", used in later techno songs as of September 1993.
