Class Of '92 (snooker)
The Class of '92 is a group of three professional snooker players—Ronnie O'Sullivan, John Higgins, and Mark Williams—who all turned professional during the 1992–93 snooker season and have become known for their collective dominance of the sport as well as their longevity as top-ranked players, which O'Sullivan has compared to that of the Big Three (Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal) in men's singles tennis. All three players were born in 1975, Williams on 21 March, Higgins on 18 May, and O'Sullivan on 5 December. The trio has won a combined 96 ranking titles, with O'Sullivan having won 40, Higgins 31, and Williams 25. All three players have won each Triple Crown event multiple times, for a combined total of 38 Triple Crown titles. The Players Tour Championship 2011/2012 – Event 4 (also known as the 2011 Paul Hunter Classic) was a professional minor-ranking snooker tournament that took place between 25 and 28 August 2011 in Fürth, Germany. Some of the preliminary round matches were held in Nürnberg. It was the first PTC event outside of the Grand Finals to be broadcast on television, as one table was screened on Eurosport. Ronnie O'Sullivan made the 78th official maximum break during his last 32 match against Adam Duffy. This was O'Sullivan's 11th record 147 break. This is a list of professional snooker players ordered by the number of "ranking titles" they have won. A ranking title is a tournament that counts towards the snooker world rankings. World rankings were introduced in the 1976–77 season, initially based on the results from the previous three World Championships. This meant that the 1974 World Championship retrospectively became the first ranking event, won by Ray Reardon. Until 1982, the World Championship was the only ranking event. In the 1982–83 season, two more ranking events were added to the snooker calendar: the International Open and the Professional Players Tournament. In 1984, the UK Championship, initially a non-ranking tournament, became a ranking event for the first time. More ranking tournaments were established over the years. The 1999 World Snooker Championship (also referred to as the 1999 Embassy World Snooker Championship for the purposes of sponsorship) was a professional ranking snooker tournament that took place between 17 April and 3 May 1999 at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, England. John Higgins was the defending champion, but he lost in the semi-finals 10–17 against Mark Williams and became another World Champion who fell to the Crucible curse and could not defend his first World title. Stephen Hendry won his seventh and final World title by defeating Mark Williams in the final by 18 frames to 11. The tournament was sponsored by cigarette manufacturer Embassy. Ken Doherty
Ken Doherty (born 17 September 1969) is an Irish professional snooker player, commentator and radio presenter. As an amateur, Doherty won the Irish Amateur Championship twice, the World Under-21 Amateur Championship and the World Amateur Championship. Since turning professional in 1990, Doherty has won six ranking tournaments, including the 1997 World Snooker Championship in which he defeated Stephen Hendry, inflicting Hendry's first loss in a world final. He came very close to breaking the Crucible curse, reaching the 1998 final where he lost out to John Higgins. He reached a third final in 2003, in which he was defeated by Mark Williams.
