Class S (genre)
, or S kankei, abbreviated either as ''S'' or , is an early twentieth-century Japanese ''wasei-eigo'' term used to refer to romantic friendships between girls. Citing: * * The term is also used to designate a genre of which tells stories about the same, typically focused on ''senpai'' and ''kōhai'' relationships wherein one girl is senior in age or position to the other. The "S" is an abbreviation that can stand for "sister", , "sex", "schön" (German: beautiful), and "escape". Although Class S can broadly be described as a form of love between girls, it is distinct from a romantic relationship or romance fiction in that it is used specifically to describe platonic relationships based on strong emotional bonds and very close friendship, rather than sex or sexual attraction. History Origins The western novels ''Little Women'' and ''A Little Princess'' were translated into Japanese in 1906 and 1910, respectively, in order to educate the girls to become " good wives, wise mothe ...

Stellar Classification
In astronomy, stellar classification is the classification of stars based on their spectral characteristics. Electromagnetic radiation from the star is analyzed by splitting it with a prism or diffraction grating into a spectrum exhibiting the rainbow of colors interspersed with spectral lines. Each line indicates a particular chemical element or molecule, with the line strength indicating the abundance of that element. The strengths of the different spectral lines vary mainly due to the temperature of the photosphere, although in some cases there are true abundance differences. The ''spectral class'' of a star is a short code primarily summarizing the ionization state, giving an objective measure of the photosphere's temperature. Most stars are currently classified under the Morgan–Keenan (MK) system using the letters ''O'', ''B'', ''A'', ''F'', ''G'', ''K'', and ''M'', a sequence from the hottest (''O'' type) to the coolest (''M'' type). Each letter class is then subdivi ...

Baltimore And Ohio Class S
Baltimore and Ohio Class S comprised three classes of 2-10-2 locomotives. The S class proper were 31 locomotives built in 1914 by Baldwin Locomotive Works and numbered 6000–6030. The S-1 class comprised 50 locomotives numbered 6100–6149, and 25 locomotives numbered 6150-6174. They were built between 1923 and 1924, 75 by Baldwin and by Lima Locomotive Works Lima Locomotive Works was an American firm that manufactured railroad locomotives from the 1870s through the 1950s. The company took the most distinctive part of its name from its main shop's location in Lima, Ohio. The shops were located between ... . The Class S-1a’s were built in 1926. The first batch of 25 were built by Lima, and numbered 6175-6199. The second batch was built by Baldwin, and numbered 6200-6224. They were nicknamed "big sixes" because until renumbering in 1954 their road numbers all began with 6. Locomotives numbered 6009 and 6030 were scrapped in 1925, and their boilers used to build new Class T ...

BNCR Class S
The Belfast and Northern Counties Railway (BNCR) Class S was a class of two-cylinder compound steam locomotives that was introduced for service on the narrow gauge railways of County Antrim in north-east Ireland. History The Class S was a class of six locomotives designed under the supervision of Bowman Malcolm as a narrow gauge application of the Worsdell- von Borries system of two-cylinder compound locomotives that had been adopted by the BNCR. Limited space between the frames required them to have outside cylinders and Walschaerts valve gear unlike their broad gauge counterparts. The smaller diameter high-pressure cylinder was on the left and the larger low-pressure one on the right. Two engines were ordered from Beyer, Peacock and Company in January 1892 and left Gorton Foundry in May 1892 entering service as numbers 69 and 70. They were renumbered 110 and 111 respectively in 1897. The class would only be enlarged after the BNCR had amalgamated with the Midland Rai ...

GNRI Class S
The Great Northern Railway (Ireland) class S was a class of five 4-4-0 steam locomotive that the Great Northern Railway introduced in 1913 to haul Belfast – Dublin express passenger trains. They were followed two years later by the three similar class S2 locomotives. All were built by Beyer, Peacock and Company at their Gorton Foundry, Manchester. Fleet Names The locomotives were delivered during a time when the GNRI was removing names from locomotives. The S class locomotives carried names from new, but gradually lost them, so by 1925, only 170 ''Errigal'' retained its name. This it lost in 1930. The S2 locomotives were allocated the names ''Lugnaquilla'', '' Carlingford'', and '' Mount Hamilton'', but they were never carried. With the introduction the class V locomotives in 1932, the GNRI revived the practice of naming locomotives; the S2 class acquired new names, and the S class regained their old ones as they went through the works for rebuilding in the late 1930s. South African Class S 0-8-0
The South African Railways Class S 0-8-0 of 1929 was a steam locomotive. In 1929, the South African Railways placed fourteen purpose-built steam shunting locomotives with a 0-8-0 wheel arrangement in service.Espitalier, T.J.; Day, W.A.J. (1946). ''The Locomotive in South Africa - A Brief History of Railway Development. Chapter VII - South African Railways (Continued).'' South African Railways and Harbours Magazine, Jun 1946. p. 455. Background Throughout the history of railways in South Africa, shunting was traditionally performed by downgraded mainline locomotives. Considering the enormous amount of shunting performed, the number of dedicated shunting locomotives on the South African Railways (SAR) roster in the steam era was remarkably low, amounting to only 151 locomotives on a railway whose steam stock at one stage reached a maximum of nearly 2,800 locomotives. When it did eventually introduce purpose-built shunting locomotives, the SAR preferred to adhere to the American ...
