Clarence Applegran
Clarence O. Applegran (November 6, 1893 – May 6, 1960) was an American basketball coach. He was the head coach of the Kentucky Wildcats men's basketball team of the University of Kentucky in 1924–1925, and compiled a 13–8 record. Applegran attended the University of Illinois and played football and basketball. During the 1919 season, Applegran earned All-American honors as a guard for the Fighting Illini football team. He later played professional football for the Detroit Heralds for the 1920 season before beginning his coaching career. Applegran, who served in World Wars I and II and rose to the rank of colonel, finished his career at South Shore High School in Chicago, Illinois. Clarence Seward Darrow (; April 18, 1857 – March 13, 1938) was an American lawyer who became famous in the early 20th century for his involvement in the Leopold and Loeb murder trial and the Scopes "Monkey" Trial. Tubby Schmalz
Clarence Vincent "Tubby" Schmalz (December 19, 1916 – December 7, 1981) was a Canadian ice hockey administrator. He served as vice-president of the Western Ontario Athletic Association from 1940 to 1950, and coached and managed the senior ice hockey team in Walkerton, Ontario. He was elected to the Ontario Hockey Association executive (OHA) in 1956, and served as its president from 1969 to 1972. He was the first commissioner of the Ontario Major Junior Hockey League (OMJHL), serving from 1974 to 1978. He became vice-chairman of the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA) in 1979, and was elected its chairman in 1981. He was a graduate of St. Jerome's College, and operated the Hartley House hotel in Walkerton. He served on the Walkerton Town Council for 17 years, including three years as reeve from 1979 to 1981. Clarence Scharbauer (August 17, 1879 – October 2, 1942) was an American rancher, oilman, banker and hotelier. He was the owner of large ranches in Texas and New Mexico. By the time of his death, Scharbauer was "one of West Texas' most prominent and influential citizens." Early life Clarence Scharbauer was born on August 18, 1879 in Albany County, New York. He grew up in Midland, Texas. His paternal uncle, John Scharbauer, was a Texas cattleman who owned ranches in Lea County, New Mexico. His paternal great-grandfather was an immigrant from Germany. Scharbauer attended a business school in Waco, Texas, followed by Baylor University. Career Scharbauer managed and eventually inherited the family ranches. Clarence Saunders (9 August 1881 – 14 October 1953) was an American grocer who first developed the modern retail sales model of self service. His ideas have had a massive influence on the development of the modern supermarket. Saunders worked for most of his life trying to develop a truly automated store, developing Piggly Wiggly, Keedoozle, and Foodelectric store concepts. Early life Saunders was born on a farm in Amherst County, Virginia, to Abram Warwick and Mary Gregory. Saunders' mother died when he was five. Abram had served in the Confederate army under Stonewall Jackson but had struggled financially in the aftermath of the war. In 1891, his father moved the family to Montgomery County, Tennessee, where his father worked as a laborer and sharecropper on a plantation near Palmyra, Tennessee. Clarence Nicholas "Nick" Saunders (born 14 September 1963) is a retired Bermudian high jumper. He won a bronze medal at the 1982 Commonwealth Games and finished fifth at the 1988 Summer Olympics. In 1989 he held the Commonwealth record with 2.34 metres, but this was equalled by Dalton Grant. At the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland, Saunders would jump 2.36 to take the Commonwealth record and the gold medal ahead of Grant. 2.36 metres remained Saunders' career best jump, and it is still a Bermudian record. Clarence Charles Newcomer
Clarence Charles Newcomer (January 18, 1923 – August 22, 2005) was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania for more than 33 years. Education and career Newcomer was born in Mount Joy, Pennsylvania, to Clarence S. and Clara Charles Newcomer. He graduated from Mount Joy High School in 1941. Newcomer entered the V-12 Navy College Training Program, and was a United States Naval Reserve Lieutenant of an amphibious landing craft in the Pacific Theater during World War II, from 1943 to 1946. During that time he earned an Artium Baccalaureus degree from Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, in 1944, where he was a member of Sigma Pi fraternity. Clarence Charles "Ducky" Nash (December 7, 1904 – February 20, 1985) was an American voice actor. He was best known as the original voice of the Disney cartoon character Donald Duck. He was born in the rural community of Watonga, Oklahoma, and a street in that town is named in his honor. In 1993, he was posthumously made a Disney Legend for his contributions to Walt Disney films. Career Nash made a name for himself in the late 1920s as an impressionist for KHJ, a Los Angeles radio station, on their show, ''The Merrymakers''. He later was employed by the Adohr Milk Company for publicity purposes.
