Clarence (1922 Film)
''Clarence'' is a 1922 American silent comedy drama, based on the 1919 play by Booth Tarkington, produced by Famous Players–Lasky and distributed through Paramount Pictures. It was directed by William C. deMille and starred Wallace Reid in his penultimate screen appearance. In E.J. Fleming's 2007 biography of Wallace Reid, it is stated that many in Reid's neighborhood, including Rudolph Valentino, remembered that Reid kept the neighborhood awake playing his saxophone. It is not stated whether Reid was honing his skills for this film or just enjoying some leisure. The film is now considered a lost film. Kathlyn Williams
Kathlyn Williams (born Kathleen Mabel Williams, May 31, 1879 – September 23, 1960) was an American actress, known for her blonde beauty and daring antics, who performed on stage as well as in early silent film. She began her career onstage in her hometown of Butte, Montana, where she was sponsored by local copper magnate William A. Clark to study acting in New York City. She later appeared in numerous films between 1910 and 1932 before retiring from acting. Williams died of a heart attack in Los Angeles at age 81. Early life and career Williams was born in Butte, Montana, the only child born to Joseph Edwin "Frank" Williams, a boarding house proprietor, and Mary C. For films in which any portion of the footage remains (including trailers), see List of incomplete or partially lost films. Reasons for loss Films may go missing for a number of reasons. One major contributing factor is the common use of nitrate film until the early 1950s. This type of film is highly flammable, and there have been several devastating fires, such as the Universal Pictures fire in 1924, the 1937 Fox vault fire and the 1965 MGM vault fire. Black-and-white film prints judged to be otherwise worthless were sometimes incinerated to salvage the meager scrap value of the silver image particles in their emulsions. Mayme Kelso (February 28, 1867 – June 5, 1946) was an American actress of the silent era. She appeared in more than 70 films between 1911 and 1927. She was born in Columbus, Ohio, and died in South Pasadena, California from a heart attack.
