Citizens Building (Columbus, Ohio)
The Citizens Building is a historic building in Downtown Columbus, Ohio. It was listed on the Columbus Register of Historic Properties in 2013, and was listed as part of the High and Gay Streets Historic District, on the National Register of Historic Places, in 2014. The building was built in 1917 for the Citizens Trust and Savings Company. It currently houses the Citizens, 63 apartment units managed by Drucker & Falk. It also houses Veritas, one of Columbus's fine dining restaurants, as well as a cocktail bar, The Citizens Trust, run by the same owners. The building also houses the flagship location of Brioso Coffee, which relocated there in 2019. High And Gay Streets Historic District
The High and Gay Streets Historic District is a Historic district (United States), historic district in Downtown Columbus, Ohio. The site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014. The district includes 18 buildings, including three that are non-contributing, and one contributing building that has since been demolished. The buildings span three of four blocks surrounding the intersection of High Street (Columbus, Ohio), High and Gay Streets; the northwest block was predominantly used for parking at the time, with only one building, the Rankin Building (Columbus, Ohio), Rankin Building (separately listed on the NRHP), on that block. Its boundaries are Wall St. on the west, Elm Aly. on the north, Lynn St. on the east, and Pearl St. on the south. The 15 contributing buildings range from two to ten stories in height. High Street is a major thoroughfare in Central Ohio, predominantly in Franklin County and Columbus. It stretches from the northern border of Columbus in Delaware County south to the southern boundary of Franklin County just past Columbus's municipal boundaries. The street is considered one of Columbus's two main roads, along with Broad Street. Route description High Street extends north and south far into Ohio, though it is named High Street starting at the northern end of Columbus (in Delaware County). North of this it is U.S. Route 23. Continuing south, the road quickly enters Franklin County and passes through some northerly suburbs in Columbus. Richards, McCarty & Bulford was an American architectural firm. The General Services Administration has called the firm the "preeminent" architectural firm of the city of Columbus, Ohio. A number of the firm's works are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. History Clarence Earl Richards (1864–1921) and Joel Edward McCarty (1856–1952) founded the firm as Richards & McCarty in 1898, Columbus, Ohio. George Henry Bulford (1870–1942) joined as partner in 1899 and the firm name became Richards, McCarty & Bulford. Richards, McCarty, and Bulford had previously apprenticed at the firm of Yost & Packard of Columbus. The Columbus Register of Historic Properties is a register for historic buildings and other sites in Columbus, Ohio, United States. The register is maintained by the City of Columbus Historic Resources Commission and Historic Preservation Office, and was established in 1980. Many of these landmarks are also listed on the National Register of Historic Places, providing federal tax support for preservation, and some are further designated National Historic Landmarks, providing additional federal oversight. ''Columbus Alive'' (also presented as ''ALIVE''), was a free online news site serving Columbus, Ohio. The site focused on local music, art, dining, film and culture. Formerly distributed in print form each week on Thursdays, the final print version of the alternative-weekly newspaper was published on July 3, 2019. The publication was acquired by ''The Columbus Dispatch'' in the first half of 2006 and the circulation at that time was approximately 55,000. In 2015, the ''Dispatch'' was acquired by New Media Investment Group, which later became Gannett. Circulation had fallen to 32,000 copies by 2019, which according to editor Andy Downing made the newspaper "no longer sustainable" in print form.
