Citizens' Movement ( es, Movimiento Ciudadano) is a political party in Mexico. Dante Delgado Rannauro was its first leader. It was initially known as Convergence for Democracy ( es, Convergencia por la Democracia), but the name was shortened to simply Convergence ( es, Convergencia) in August 2002. In July 2011, it was reformed as the Citizens' Movement. Since the 4th of December 2018, Clemente Castañeda has been the head of the party as part of a new wave of young leaders. Convergence was founded as a "national political grouping" in 1997. It attained registered party status in 1999 and participated in federal elections in the 2000 general election as a component in the " Alliance for Mexico" ''(Alianza por México),'' whose (unsuccessful) presidential candidate was Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas. The party replaced in 2002 the Citizens' Movement (''Mouvement des citoyens'', MDC) founded by Jean-Pierre Chevènement, who left the Socialist Party (France), Socialist Party (PS) in 1993 due to his opposition to the Gulf War and to the Maastricht Treaty. The Geneva Citizens' Movement (french: Mouvement Citoyens Genevois), abbreviated to MCG, is a populist political party in the Canton of Geneva, Switzerland. On its own initiative, it started, and is a part of, the wider Romandy Citizens' Movement (french: Mouvement Citoyens Romand), abbreviated to MCR. History The MCG was co-founded in 2005 by Éric Stauffer and Georges Letellier. It established itself as the canton's third most powerful political party in the 2009 legislative election, winning 17 out of 100 seats in the Grand Council of Geneva. In 2010, the MCG formed a wider party organization with chapters throughout the cantons of Romandy, called the ''Mouvement Citoyen Romand'' (MCR).
