Citizens' List
The Citizens' List ( lb, Biergerlëscht, french: Liste des citoyens) is a Luxembourgian political party. It was founded in the run-up to the 2009 Chamber of Deputies election and European election. It ran in two circonscriptions; in Sud, the list was to be headed by Aly Jaerling, then an independent member of the Chamber of Deputies, whilst, in Nord, it was led by Jean Ersfeld, formerly leader of the Free Party of Luxembourg. The party stands for increased pension rights, following on from Jaerling's former membership of the (formerly single-issue) Alternative Democratic Reform Party; social justice; and an anti-establishment An anti-establishment view or belief is one which stands in opposition to the conventional social, political, and economic principles of a society. Aly Jaerling
Alphonse 'Aly' Jaerling (born 30 January 1948 in Esch-sur-Alzette) is a Luxembourgish politician. He sat in the Chamber of Deputies from 1999, when he was first elected for the Alternative Democratic Reform Party (ADR) until 2009. He is also a member of Esch-sur-Alzette's communal council (1993 – 1999, 2000 – ). Jaerling left the ADR on 1 May 2006, protesting at the shift in the party's emphasis away from pension reform, which had originally been the ADR's ''raison d'être'', and decrying the 'nationalism' espoused by the party. The party had recently renamed itself from 'Action Committee for Democracy and Pensions Justice', a name that it had borne since 1992, as part of its gradual metamorphosis from a single-issue party to one of the established parties. Circonscription Nord (Luxembourg)
North ( lb, Norden; french: Nord; german: Norden) is one of the four multi-member constituencies of the Chamber of Deputies, the national legislature of Luxembourg. The constituency was established in 1919 following the introduction of proportional representation for elections to the Chamber of Deputies. It consists of the cantons of Clervaux, Diekirch, Redange, Vianden and Wiltz. The constituency currently elects nine of the 60 members of the Chamber of Deputies using the open party-list proportional representation electoral system. At the 2018 general election it had 47,223 registered electors. Alternative Democratic Reform Party
The Alternative Democratic Reform Party (ADR; lb, Alternativ Demokratesch Reformpartei, french: Parti réformiste d'alternative démocratique, german: Alternative Demokratische Reformpartei) is a conservative and mildly populist political party in Luxembourg. It has four seats in the sixty-seat Chamber of Deputies, making it the fifth-largest party. The party was founded in 1987, as a single-issue party from demanding equality of state pension provision between civil servants and all other citizens. In the 1989 election, it won four seats, and established itself as a political force. It peaked at seven seats in 1999, due to mistrust of politicians failing to resolve the pensions gap, before falling back to four today. Single-issue politics involves political campaigning or political support based on one essential policy area or idea. Political expression One weakness of such an approach is that effective political parties are usually coalitions of factions or advocacy groups. ''Luxemburger Wort'' is a German-language Luxembourgish daily newspaper. There is an English edition named the ''Luxembourg Times''. History and profile ''Luxemburger Wort'' has been published since 1848. The paper was founded just three days after press censorship was abolished. The newspaper is mainly written in German, but includes small sections in both Luxembourgish and French. The paper is part of the Saint-Paul Luxembourg S.A. The paper is owned by the archbishopric and has a strong Catholic leaning. The Free Party of Luxembourg ( lb, Fräi Partei Lëtzebuerg), abbreviated as FPL, was a political party in Luxembourg. Foundation and 2004 elections Founded in 2003, it emerged onto the political scene in the run-up to the 2004 legislative elections for the Chamber of Deputies. It fielded 8 candidates, none of whom was elected. The party totalled 0.1% of votes cast nationally, finishing last of the eight party lists.
