Cities In The Park
__NOTOC__ Cities in the Park was a two-day music event held on the 3rd and 4th of August 1991 in music, 1991 at Heaton Park in Manchester, England. It was held in honour of Factory Records producer Martin Hannett, who had died in April. Some profits from ticket sales went to African Famine Relief and the Kurdish Trust Fund. The first day included performances by The Wonder Stuff and Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, and the second featured many Factory acts such as Happy Mondays, Electronic (band), Electronic and A Certain Ratio. Chris Sievey, Frank Sidebottom also made an appearance. A home video of highlights, which was filmed on super 8 film, was released by Palace in November 1991. Ruthless Rap Assassins
The Ruthless Rap Assassins were a British hip hop group from Hulme, Manchester, England. The group was formed by MC Kermit La Freak (later simply Kermit - real name Paul Leveridge) and brothers Dangerous Hinds (real name Anderson Hinds) and Dangerous C (real name Carson Hinds). History Kermit grew up in Moss Side, Manchester - where he learnt to play violin at the age of 6 - and was briefly a DJ under the name of 'DJ la Freak', whilst doing a psychology degree at Manchester Polytechnic. He joined the breakdance crew Broken Glass, who moved into making records with "Style of the Street" following a meeting with Manchester DJ and producer Greg Wilson. "Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn't've)" is a 1978 song written by Pete Shelley and performed by his group Buzzcocks. It was a number 12 hit on the UK Singles Chart and was included on the album ''Love Bites (album), Love Bites''. Background and writing In November 1977, the Buzzcocks were on a headline tour of the UK. Before a gig at the Clouds (also known as the Cavendish Ballroom) in Edinburgh, they stayed the night. Pete Shelley later recalled: "We were in the Blenheim Guest House with pints of beer, sitting in the TV room half-watching ''Guys and Dolls''. One of the characters, Adelaide, is saying to Marlon Brando's character, 'Wait till you fall in love with someone you shouldn't have.' "I thought, 'fallen in love with someone you shouldn't have?' Buzzcocks are an English punk rock band formed in Bolton, England in 1976 by singer-songwriter-guitarist Pete Shelley and singer-songwriter Howard Devoto. Natural Life
Natural Life were an English band of the early 1990s that are best described as a 'bohemian rock collective', their music is a combination of rock influences and dancefloor beats. They emerged from London's Balearic dance movement and were quickly caught up in a bidding war between the major record labels. Their early gigs listed venues such as Danny Rampling's fledgling 'Milk Bar' and 'Eat The Worm' at the Hannover Grand, where they were supported by the then unknown Ocean Colour Scene. They were the only London based band to play 'Factory Day' at 'Cities in the Park' with The Happy Mondays, Electronic and A Certain Ratio. The Wendys are a Scottish alternative indie rock band, that were part of the Madchester music scene, and were signed to the Factory Records music label by Tony Wilson. They were formed in Edinburgh by Jonathan Renton (vocals), Ian White (guitar), Johnny MacArthur (drums), and Arthur Renton (bass). Revenge (UK Band)
Revenge was a band formed by New Order bassist Peter Hook (vocals, bass, keyboards) and Lavolta Lakota and Rawhead singer Davyth Hicks (aka Dave Hicks) on guitar and vocals, together with Chris Jones (keyboards). Revenge formed during New Order's hiatus in 1989-1990 and played their final gigs in January 1993. After their industrial rock/house music hybrid album ''One True Passion'' was written and recorded, the band was joined on stage by David Potts (bass and guitar) and Ash Taylor on drums. De La Soul
De La Soul () is an American hip hop trio formed in 1988 in the Amityville area of Long Island, New York.
