Circulo Industrial De Alcoy
The Circulo Industrial de Alcoy ''(''Alcoy's Industrial Circle'')'' is a cultural institution from Alcoy (Alicante), Valencian Community, Spain, founded on January 1, 1868. It is placed at 19 Sant Nicolau street, in the city center of Alcoy. His creation had as aim to create an entity that was using as link and point of meeting of the businessmen, entrepreneurs and the Alcoy's middle class. Also, from his beginnings it developed sociocultural aims and activities. The history of Alcoy's Industrial Circle is a faithful reflection of Alcoy's economic and industrial history. Building The building was designed by the Valencian architect Timoteo Briet Montaud in 1909–1911. The building is one of the most representative works of the Art Nouveau in Alcoy. It is one of the most singular and better preserved Art Nouveau works of Alcoy, both in his exterior and in his elegant interior spaces. Alcoy
Alcoy ( ca-valencia, Alcoi) is an industrial and university city, region and municipality located in the Valencian Community, Spain. The Serpis river crosses the municipal boundary of Alcoy. The local authority reported a population of 61,135 residents in 2018. History The first traces of human presence in the area date to c. 60,000 years ago, when Neanderthal hunters settled here, in a site now called El Salt. A site with rock paintings, dating to c. 10,000/6,500 years ago, has been discovered near la Sarga. Timoteo Briet Montaud
Timoteo Briet Montaud (Cocentaina, March 3, 1859 – Alcoy, January 30, 1925) was a Spanish architect, one of the main architects of the Art Nouveau in Alcoy and the Valencian Art Nouveau. Biography In 1876 he finishes his studies in Alcoy's Industrial Elementary School. Between 1882 and 1883 he ends his studies in the Barcelona Official School of Fine arts. In 1890 finishes the architect's career in the Barcelona School of Architecture. In 1893 Timoteo Briet marries with Maria Valor Boronat. In 1902 he is nominated municipal architect of Alcoy, by public contest. The Timoteo Briet's art nouveau style will be contained, rather formally and especially with a great influence of the Austrian art nouveau movement Secession, influence that it is present in all his art nouveau works. Valencian Art Nouveau ( es, modernismo valenciano, ca-valencia, modernisme valencià), is the historiographic denomination given to an art and literature movement associated with the Art Nouveau in the Valencian Community, in Spain. Its main form of expression was in architecture, but many other arts were involved (painting, sculpture, etc.), and especially the design and the decorative arts (cabinetmaking, carpentry, forged iron, ceramic tiles, ceramics, etc.), which were particularly important, especially in their role as support to architecture. In art history, secession refers to a historic break between a group of avant-garde artists and conservative European standard-bearers of academic and official art in the late 19th and early 20th century. The name was first suggested by Georg Hirth (1841–1916), the editor and publisher of the influential German art magazine '' Jugend'' (''Youth)'', which also went on to lend its name to the ''Jugendstil''. His word choice emphasized the tumultuous rejection of legacy art while it was being reimagined. Of the various secessions, the Vienna Secession (1897) remains the most influential.
