Church Of Santo Domingo, Quito
The Church of Santo Domingo is a Catholic church in the historic center of the city of Quito, capital of Ecuador. The complex of convent, church and chapels is located on the Plaza de Santo Domingo, itself named after the church. History Its construction began in 1540, when the site was assigned to the community of Dominican Order, Dominican fathers; Later, and after a provisional chapel was built, the definitive plans of the temple that persist to the present day were drawn up in 1581 by the architect Francisco Becerra. After Becerra's death, the work passed into the hands of Father Rodrigo Manrique de Lara; Friar Antonio RodrÃguez was in charge of the works of the convent, while Friar Juan Mantilla was in charge of completing the works of the church in 1688. Pedro Bedón
Fray Pedro Bedón DÃaz de Pineda ( – ) was a South American Dominican friar and painter of the Quito school. Biography Fray Pedro Bedón was born in 1556 in Quito, then part of the Viceroyalty of Peru (present-day Ecuador). He entered the novitiate of the Dominican order at the age of fourteen, completed his studies in Lima, and was then appointed professor of philosophy in the college of that city. He studied painting under Italian artist Bernardo Bitti in Lima. In his early life he had cultivated painting, and when afterward he had recovered from a dangerous malady, he resolved to devote his leisure to painting pictures of the Blessed Virgin. Bernardo De Legarda
Bernardo de Legarda (c. 1700 Р1 June 1773) was one of the most important artists of the Quito School movement. Biography Legarda was a mestizo artist and the one who best personified the art of sculpture in the capital of Quito during his period. His first artwork dated from 1731 when he restored an image of Saint Luke in the Church of Santo Domingo, after which he was much in demand. In 1732 he was commissioned to do a sculpture of the Immaculate Conception for the Church of San Francisco. Isabel De Santiago
Isabel de Cisneros (1666 – ca. 1714) was a female Criollo colonial painter born in the colony of Quito (Ecuador). She was the daughter of Miguel de Santiago, one of the most famous colonial Quito School painters. Often referred to as Isabel de Santiago, she however identified herself as Cisneros, a name she inherited from her mother. Life She was born in 1666 to Miguel de Santiago, a ''mestizo'', and Andrea Cisneros y Alvarado, who was Spanish. She trained and worked in her father's workshop. She married Captain Antonio Egas and together they had five children. Miguel de Santiago outlived his three sons, wife and other daughter - only Isabel outlived her father. Quito School
The Quito School (''Escuela Quiteña'') is a Latin American artistic tradition that constitutes essentially the whole of the professional artistic output developed in the territory of the Royal Audience of Quito – from Pasto and Popayán in the north to Piura and Cajamarca in the south – during the Spanish colonial period (1542–1824). It is especially associated with the 17th and 18th centuries and was almost exclusively focused on the religious art of the Catholic Church in the country. Characterized by a mastery of the realistic and by the degree to which indigenous beliefs and artistic traditions are evident, these productions were among of the most important activities in the economy of the Royal Audience of Quito. Virgen De La Escalera - Fray Pedro Bedón (siglo XVI)
Virgen is a municipality in the district of Lienz in the Austrian state of Tyrol. It includes part of the Virgen valley in the Venediger Group mountain range, and extensive parts of the municipality are in High Tauern National Park. The history of the area goes back to 500 BC, when copper mining played an important role. After the end of the Roman period Slavs settled in the Virgen valley, who were gradually assimilated by Baiuvarii settlers beginning in the 8th century. The simultaneous Christianization of the area led to the creation of one of the first parishes in the region. During the middle ages Virgen was a part of Carinthia and the County of Gorizia, and by 1500 it was annexed by Tyrol. With a population of 2,200 (as of January 1, 2020), Virgen is the fifth largest community in east Tyrol in terms of population.
