Chris Hawkes
Chris Hawkes is a songwriter, singer, guitarist, recording engineer and producer. Hawkes performs with Miranda Dawn as the duo Dawn and Hawkes. Music career Beginnings and Bands As a musician Chris Hawkes was first recorded and released on a 1998 compilation ''Garage Nights at Laser Trax'' released on Cannon Riggle Records. Hawkes formed a band called Redtag while attending the University of North Texas. Hawkes switched roles of frontman/songwriter to produce and play lead guitar for Five Times August, a previously solo project of singer-songwriter Brad Skistimas. The single "Better With You" was featured on MTV series '' Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County'' in its inaugural season. A full length 2005 follow up album ''Fry Street'', with performance and production by Hawkes, received more play on cable and broadcast television. Dawn and Hawkes are an indie folk duo from Austin, Texas consisting of singer-songwriters Miranda Dawn and Chris Hawkes. History In mid-2011 Miranda Dawn and Chris Hawkes collaborated for the recording of Dawn's debut album, ''Reason to Feel Alive''. Dawn was recognized as a finalist in the Kerrville Folk Festival New Folk songwriting competition for her songs "Forever Happily" and "Made to Roam" and performed with Hawkes at the festival in May 2012. Dawn and Hawkes continued co-writing and touring together and released a collaborative effort, ''Golden Heart'', in June 2012. While on tour in California in 2013, the duo auditioned for season 6 of the American reality talent show '' The Voice''. Jimmy LaFave
Jimmy LaFave (July 12, 1955 – May 21, 2017) was an American singer-songwriter and folk musician. After moving to Stillwater, Oklahoma, LaFave became a supporter of Woody Guthrie. He later became an Advisory Board member and regular performer at the annual Woody Guthrie Folk Festival. In 1996 LaFave received the Kerrville Folk Festival songwriter of the year award and appeared on the TV show ''Austin City Limits''. He recorded 15 albums and his 2007 release, '' Cimarron Manifesto'', reached the No. 1 mark on the Americana Music Association album chart. Kerrville Folk Festival
The Kerrville Folk Festival is a music festival held for 18 consecutive days in the late spring/early summer at Quiet Valley Ranch near Kerrville, Texas. The Kerrville Folk Festival was founded in 1972 by the husband-wife team of Rod Kennedy and Nancylee Davis. The event has run annually since then. In 2002, Kennedy retired and the non-profit Texas Folk Music Foundation took over Festival management. The new board hired Dalis Allen as producer. In November 2008, the Kerrville Folk Festival and Kerrville Wine & Music Festival were acquired by the Texas Folk Music Foundation, a 501(c)3 Texas Non-profit Corporation. The event draws around 30,000 people per year. Tickets (single day or season passes) are required for admission. Many patrons camp out on the festival grounds during part or all of the festival.
