Chris Clark (crime Writer)
Chris Clark (born 1945/6) is a British amateur crime writer who writes chiefly about serial killers and their supposed links to unsolved crimes. He is a retired police intelligence officer who worked in the King's Lynn area for Norfolk Police, although his career was somewhat unsuccessful and he had three applications to join the new National Criminal Intelligence Service rejected in 1993, with the commanding officers unimpressed by his record and applications. In 2022, his book ''Yorkshire Ripper: The Secret Murders'', which was jointly written with journalist Tim Tate and alleged links between Peter Sutcliffe and unsolved murders, was made into an ITV prime-time documentary series of the same name. As well as Sutcliffe, Clark has also written about Angus Sinclair, Christopher Halliwell and Robert Black, styling himself as the Armchair Detective. Norfolk Constabulary is the territorial police force responsible for policing Norfolk in East Anglia, England. Carol Wilkinson
The Murder of Carol Wilkinson was committed on 10 October 1977 in Bradford, West Yorkshire. Anthony Steel spent 19 years in prison for the murder under wrongful conviction, and was acquitted in 2003. Due to poor health, he died shortly after in 2007 at the age of 52. Murder Carol Wilkinson was killed as she walked to work in October 1977. The attack took place in a field at the back of the bakery where Wilkinson worked, about fifteen minutes' walk from the estate where she lived. Her best friend at work had heard her say she would not be walking the "muck road" route which Anthony Steel was said to have described in his confession. Wendy Sewell
The Stephen Downing case involved the conviction and imprisonment in 1974 of a 17-year-old council worker, Stephen Downing, for the murder of a 32-year-old legal secretary, Wendy Sewell, in the town of Bakewell in the Peak District in Derbyshire. Following a campaign by a local newspaper led by Don Hale, in which Sewell was purported to be promiscuous and dubbed "The Bakewell Tart", his conviction was overturned in 2002 after he had served 27 years in prison. Andrew Evans (born 1950s) is an English soldier from Longton, Staffordshire, Longton, Staffordshire who was wrongfully convicted and served 25 years in jail after confessing to the 1972 murder of Judith Roberts, a 14-year-old schoolgirl from a village close to the northern outskirts of nearby Tamworth, Staffordshire, Tamworth. Evans was stationed at Whittington Barracks near Lichfield – an army base in close proximity to Tamworth – when Judith was dragged from her bicycle and battered to death in June 1972. He later confessed to the crime after seeing the girl's face in a dream. Evans was charged with Judith's murder in October 1972 after he presented himself at a local police station, asking to see a photograph of the victim, and making a signed statement following three days of interviews in which he maintained his guilt. Jacqueline Susan Ansell-Lamb (21 September 1951 – 14 March 1970) and Barbara Janet Mayo (20 March 1946 – 12 October 1970) were two young women who were murdered in separate incidents in 1970. Both women were last seen hitch-hiking along motorways in England, and both were sexually assaulted before being strangled to death. Although the murders occurred seven months apart and a considerable distance from each other, investigators suspect both murders were committed by the same perpetrator. Peter William Sutcliffe (2 June 1946 – 13 November 2020) was an English serial killer who was dubbed the Yorkshire Ripper (an allusion to Jack the Ripper) by the press. Sutcliffe was convicted of murdering 13 women and attempting to murder seven others between 1975 and 1980. He was sentenced to 20 concurrent sentences of life imprisonment, which were converted to a whole life order in 2010.
