Eric Tyrone Breed (June 12, 1971 – November 22, 2008), better known as MC Breed, was an American rapper best known for his singles " Ain't No Future in Yo' Frontin'", which peaked at #66 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and "Gotta Get Mine" (featuring 2Pac), that made it to number 6 on the Hot Rap Singles. Career Born in Flint, Michigan, Breed launched his career in the Detroit hip-hop scene, and was one of the first nationally successful rappers to come out of this scene. Breed's first album was released with rap group DFC and was entitled '' MC Breed & DFC'' for independent record label, SDEG Records. His solo debut was 1992's '' 20 Below'', after which he released 1993's '' The New Breed''. Chopped and screwed (also called screwed and chopped or slowed and throwed) is a music genre and technique of remixing music that involves slowing down the tempo and deejaying. It developed in the Houston hip hop scene in the early 1990s by DJ Screw. The screwed technique involves slowing the tempo of a song down to 60 and 70 quarter-note beats per minute and applying techniques such as skipping beats, record scratching, stop-time and affecting portions of the original composition to create a "chopped-up" version of the song. History 1990: Creation Preceding the late 1990s, most Southern hip hop was upbeat and fast, like Miami bass and Memphis, which was inspired by Afrika Bambaataa & the Soulsonic Force with their groundbreaking track " Planet Rock". Anthony Banks (born March 4, 1966) is an American record producer and rapper from Oakland, California. Biography As a child, he took part in a band at school and then learned to play a variety of instruments along the way. At school he only learned classical music, but at home he taught himself to play funk music like Parliament, Funkadelic and The Gap Band on his digital keyboard. Interested in making music, he would create beats and record his own versions for fun. Banks would later record tapes with his friend, Oakland rapper MC Ant, and sell them at their high school out the trunk of their cars. With the lyrics handled by MC Ant and the production by Ant Banks, buzz over the tapes eventually reached the streets, resulting in popularity throughout the city. Phalon Anton Alexander, (born April 15, 1974), professionally known as Jazze Pha ( ), is an American record producer, singer, songwriter and rapper from Memphis, Tennessee. He is the founder and chief executive officer of Sho'nuff Records, to which American R&B singer-songwriter Ciara was signed. Early life Jazze Pha was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. ''The Fharmacist'' is the eighth album released by MC Breed. It was released on May 8, 2001, for Fharmacy Recordings and featured production from MC Breed, Jazze Pha, The D.O.C., Dog, Corey Peterson and Gee Pierce. By the time this album was released, Breed's popularity had greatly decreased, thus the album did not make it to the Billboard charts. His single "Let's Go To The Club" received massive airplay in his native Detroit area, but not as much elsewhere. It is his most successful single since 1991's "Ain't No Future in Yo Frontin'". ''The New Prescription'' is the ninth and final album by Breed. Released in 2004, it was Breed's final album, and the only release by UMZ Entertainment, a subsidiary of Psychopathic Records. Conception Background Breed signed to UMZ Entertainment after leaving Fharmacy Recordings. UMZ was founded by Alex Abbiss as a subsidiary of Psychopathic Records, a label founded by Abbiss and Insane Clown Posse. Abbiss wanted to release music intended for a wider audience than ICP's Juggalo fanbase. Regarding Breed, ICP member and label chairman Joseph Bruce stated, "It’s just a business relationship that turned friends. We’re not doing anything with him in the future that we know of as far as tours or anything like that. He’s just doing his thing. His record is a great record." Todd Anthony Shaw (born April 28, 1966), better known by the stage name Too Short (stylized as Too $hort), is an American rapper and record producer.
