Chod Rig
The chod rig is a fishing rig for carp fishing, generally regarded as having three main advantages: the way in which it allows a bait to be displayed over soft mud, weed or debris; and the way its distinct shape allows the chosen bait (usually a buoyant substance) to be attached. The latter benefit is also generally utilised in the chod rig's immediate ancestor, the stiff-hinged rig. It revolves around a rig consisting of a rigid or stiff link, an aggressively angled hook point and the ability to spring 360 degrees around the axis of the hook. The third benefit is it makes carp fishing almost impossibly easy requiring little skill or effort for large rewards. The only requirement is to soak the baits for long enough until a carp finds it. Fishing bait is any substance used to attract and catch fish, e.g. on a fishing hook. Bait items are both selected from and placed within the environment to achieve enhanced prey capture success. Traditionally, fishing baits are natural fish food such as night-crawlers, insects, worms, and smaller bait fish that have been used for catching fish. Fishermen have also begun using processed food, plastic baits and more recently, bionic lures to attract fish. Despite the importance of fish's attraction to bait, the way fish react to different baits is quite poorly understood. Benson (fish)
Benson (1984 – 4 August 2009) was "Britain's biggest and best-loved" common carp. Benson's popularity was such that she was caught 63 times in 13 years, although the accessibility that made her popular was also the cause of controversy among angling's elite. She has also been referred to as "the people's fish" and was voted by readers of '' Angler's Mail'' as Britain's Favourite Carp in 2005. The fish, who was female, was originally one of a pair: her original companion, Hedges, disappeared in a flood of the River Nene in 1998. Both fish were named due to a hole in Benson's dorsal fin that resembled a cigarette burn, in a reference to Benson & Hedges. At her peak weight, in 2006, she weighed . Heather The Leather
Heather the Leather (1960 – 1 June 2010) was a 50-year-old scaleless (also known as leather) carp, described as "Britain's most famous fish" before Benson superseded them. Heather was an old and large carp, weighing and despite incorrect allegations in the press of being caught over 1000 times, she was likely caught by fishermen approximately 75 times. A full list of the captures was recorded by Yateley anglers on the that-aint-no-bream website. She was deemed by many carp anglers, both in the UK and across Europe, as the ultimate fish to catch given her age, history and catch difficulty. At the time of her death in June 2010 she was around 50 years old and worth £30,000. Heather was discovered dead at the edge of a lake at Yateley Complex on 1 June 2010, and is thought to have died of old age. Carp are various species of oily freshwater fish from the family Cyprinidae, a very large group of fish native to Europe and Asia. Fish
Fish are aquatic, craniate, gill-bearing animals that lack limbs with digits.
