Chittenden County () is the most populous county in the U.S. state of Vermont. As of the 2020 census, its population was 168,323. The county seat is Vermont's most populous municipality, the city of Burlington. The county has over a quarter of Vermont's population and more than twice the population of Vermont's second-most populous county, Rutland. The county also has more than twice the population density of Vermont's second-most dense county, Washington. The county is named for Vermont's first governor and one of the framers of its constitution as an independent republic and later U.S. state, Thomas Chittenden. The county has most of Vermont's fastest growing municipalities. The Chittenden Hotel was a hotel building in Downtown Columbus, Ohio. The hotel, located at Spring and High streets, was in three succeeding buildings. The first was built in 1889; the second in 1892; and the third in 1895. The Chittenden was created by Columbus businessman Henry Treat Chittenden, known for owning the Columbus Railway Company, in the horsecar and streetcar business. Mount Chittenden, elevation , is a mountain peak in the Absaroka Range in Yellowstone National Park. The peak was named by Henry Gannett of the Hayden Geological Survey of 1878 for George B. Chittenden, a surveyor who had worked with Gannett, Hayden and others in surveys in Montana, Idaho and Wyoming. Chittenden never participated in any of the Yellowstone surveys. Frank Hurlbut Chittenden
Frank Hurlbut Chittenden (3 November 1858 – 15 September 1929) was an American coleopterist and economic entomologist who worked in the US Department of Entomology. Chittenden was born in Cleveland, Ohio but the family moved to Elyria. He lost his father when he was young and was taken care of by his school-teacher mother. He went to Cornell University but unfortunately for Chittenden, the well-known entomology professor at Cornell, John Henry Comstock was then away in Washington. Chittenden, sponsored by William J. Holland of the Carnegie Museum, found himself studying under W.S. Barnard, who was less experienced in entomology than himself. This led to Barnard being displeased and led to Chittenden leaving with a licenciate degree in 1881 instead of a bachelor's degree. He then lived in Brooklyn and worked at the Brooklyn Museum, and worked as an editor of the '' Entomologica Americana''. He was a founder of the Brooklyn Entomological Society. Kate Sara Chittenden (17 April 1856 – 16 September 1949) was an American professor of music, music school founder, and piano teacher. Early life and education Chittenden was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Curtis Strong Chittenden and Caroline Young Peterson Chittenden. Her parents were American; her father was a dentist born in Shelburne, Vermont. One of her paternal ancestors, William Chittenden (1593–1660), was one of six founders of Guilford, Connecticut, in 1639. Another ancestor, Thomas Chittenden (1730–1797), was the first Governor of Vermont. Her cousin Charles Curtis Chittenden was president of the American Dental Association. She studied piano with an aunt from age 5, then with Jules Fossier and Lucy H. Clinton. She was awarded the Lord Dufferin Bronze Medal for Art in 1873, while she was a student at Hellmuth Ladies' College, London, Ontario. Khan Chittenden (born 1983 in New Zealand) is a New Zealand-born Australian actor. Career Chittenden was born in New Zealand and moved at age 11 to Perth, Western Australia.
