China–Lithuania Relations
China–Lithuanian relations ( lt, Lietuvos-Kinijos santykiai) are the bilateral foreign relations between the People's Republic of China (China) and Lithuania. The PRC has a '' chargé d'affaires'' in Vilnius. In December 2021, Lithuania closed its embassy in Beijing. Timeline China-Lithuanian relations date back to 1921, when the Republic of China recognized independent Lithuania until the latter's occupation and subsequent annexation by the Soviet Union in 1940. Modern diplomatic relations between Lithuania and the People's Republic of China were officially established on 14 September 1991, following the official restoration of Lithuanian independence. Neither the PRC nor the ROC recognized the incorporation of Lithuania into the Soviet Union. Bilateralism
Bilateralism is the conduct of political, economic, or cultural relations between two sovereign states. It is in contrast to unilateralism or multilateralism, which is activity by a single state or jointly by multiple states, respectively. When states recognize one another as sovereign states and agree to diplomatic relations, they create a bilateral relationship. States with bilateral ties will exchange diplomatic agents such as ambassadors to facilitate dialogues and cooperations. Economic agreements, such as free trade agreements (FTA) or foreign direct investment (FDI), signed by two states, are a common example of bilateralism. Since most economic agreements are signed according to the specific characteristics of the contracting countries to give preferential treatment to each other, not a generalized principle but a situational differentiation is needed. China, officially the People's Republic of China (PRC), has full diplomatic relations with 178 out of the other 193 United Nations member states, Cook Islands, Niue and the State of Palestine. Daina Gudzinevičiūtė (born 23 December 1965, in Vilnius) is an Olympic shooting champion from Lithuania and president of National Olympic Committee, member of the International Olympic Committee. Shooting Trap shooting for women was first introduced in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. Gudzinevičiūtė scored 71 hits in the qualifying round and then hit 22 out of 25 targets in the final. This was one more than Delphine Racinet's score. As the event was held in the Olympic Games for the first time, Gudzinevičiūtė also set an Olympic record. It was a very unexpected victory for Lithuania and their first medal at Sydney. After the Sydney success it was expected that Gudzinevičiūtė would perform well in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, but she scored only 55 hits and landed on the 14th place among 17 contestants. Human rights in mainland China are periodically reviewed by the United Nations Human Rights Committee (UNHRC), on which the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), government of the People's Republic of China (PRC) and various foreign governments and human rights organizations have often disagreed. Uyghur Genocide
The Chinese government has committed a series of ongoing human rights abuses against Uyghurs and other ethnic and religious minorities in Xinjiang that is often characterized as genocide. Since 2014, the Chinese government, under the administration of Chinese Communist Party (CCP) General Secretary Xi Jinping, has pursued policies that incarcerated more than an estimated one million Turkic Muslims in internment camps without any legal process. The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania ( lt, Lietuvos Respublikos Seimas), or simply the Seimas (), is the unicameral parliament of Lithuania. The Seimas constitutes the legislative branch of government in Lithuania, enacting laws and amendments to the Constitution, passing the budget, confirming the Prime Minister and the Government and controlling their activities.
