Chilean Presidential Primaries, 2021
The Chilean presidential primaries of 2021 were held in Chile on Sunday 18 July 2021. According to the law, primaries are voluntary, but its results are binding. Two political coalitions decided to participate: Former minister Sebastián Sichel won the Chile Vamos primary with 49% of the vote, while deputy Gabriel Boric became the Apruebo Dignidad nominee with 60%. The Constituent Unity coalition decided not to participate. The presidential election was held on Sunday 21 November 2021. Beatriz Sánchez (journalist)
Beatriz de Jesús Sánchez Muñoz (born 24 December 1970) is a Chilean journalist and politician. During the 1990s and 2000s, she worked as a political and current affairs journalist for radio stations in Chile, where she achieved high recognition for her activity. During the 2010s, she joined television, where she was the host of the ''Hora 20'' news program on La Red (Chilean TV channel), La Red. In 2017, she ran for her country's presidential candidacy in the Broad Front (Chile), Broad Front primaries, achieving 68% of the preferences. In the same year, she ran as a candidate for the Broad Front in the 2017 presidential elections, where she reached third place, with a percentage higher than 20%, only two percentage points lower than her contender, Alejandro Guillier. Broad Front (Chile)
The Broad Front ( es, Frente Amplio, FA) is a Chilean political coalition founded in early 2017, composed of left-wing parties and movements. Its first electoral contest was the 2017 Chilean general election, where their presidential candidate Beatriz Sánchez came third with 20% of the vote in the first round of election (she just missed getting to the second-round run-off by 3%). Alberto Espina
Alberto Miguel Espina Otero (born 4 December 1956) is a Chilean lawyer and politician. He was Minister of Defense in the second government of the President Sebastián Piñera (2018–2022). Biography He is the son of Alberto Espina Barros and María Eliana Otero Lathrop (now deceased). Also Espina has three brothers: a doctor, another Minister of the Court of Appeals and another sister. Amplitude (political Party)
Amplitude was a Chilean classical-liberal political party founded in January 2014. Although initially grouped as centre-right independents that had no militancy in the parties of the Alliance, the party's leanings were later grouped with the "liberal center" and the party was associated with other movements outside the coalition before its dissolution. National Renewal ( es, Renovación Nacional, RN) is a liberal conservative political party in Chile. It is a member of Chile Vamos, a center-right to right-wing coalition. The Independent Democratic Union (''Unión Demócrata Independiente'', UDI) is a conservative and right-wing political party in Chile, founded in 1983. Its founder was the lawyer, politician and law professor Jaime Guzmán, a civilian allied with Augusto Pinochet. Guzmán was a senator from 1990 until his murder by communist guerrillas on April 1, 1991. Independent Regionalist Party
The Independent Regionalist Party ( es, Partido Regionalista Independiente, PRI) was a centrist political party in Chile. The party was regionalist ideologically but had a nationwide presence. It was intended to be an alternative to the dominant coalitions in the Chilean electoral system, the New Majority and the Alliance.
