Children's World (charity)
Children's World is a charity based in the UK. It is known internationally (as ''Children's World International''). It was set up by Arabella Churchill in 1981 after the success of the ''Children's World'' area at the Glastonbury Festival. It is registered charity Number 282743. Children's World was created to provide drama participation and creative play and to work creatively in educational settings, providing social and emotional benefits for all children, particularly those with special needs. ''Children's World International'' (Charity Reg. No. 1079546) is the sister charity of ''Children's World'' and was started in 1999 to work with children in the Balkans, in conjunction with Balkan Sunflowers and Save the Children. ''Children's World'' is a children's magazine founded by K. Shankar Pillai, a well known cartoonist, to be a forum for writings by children, budding as well as established authors. The magazine is published in English. It has many young readers all around the country and mainly features writing by children. It is based in New Delhi. History The magazine had its beginnings in the Shankar's International Children's Competition, an event conducted by K. Shankar Pillai since 1949. He decided in January 1968 to publish the entries to the competition in a weekly illustrated periodical. The magazine switched to become a monthly in March 1972. The magazine was started and is owned by Children's Book Trust. Editions It issues two special issues, in April and in November. The November issue comprises prizewinning entries from the annual Your Pages Competition for children in the age group of 5–16 years. Children's World (retailer)
Children's World Ltd was a British retail chain. It was established by Boots in 1987 and sold to Storehouse in 1996, when the stores were rebranded as Mothercare World. Format At the time, Boots' larger high street stores sold a range of baby products, maternity and children's clothing. However the Children's World stores were a larger "superstore" format typically located on retail parks, which sold a wider range of children's clothes, shoes, toys, baby products, nursery furniture. The stores also included a play area, hairdresser and a snack bar. Marketing The logo resembled a pile of multicoloured building blocks. The slogan was "Everything in the World for Children". Finances By 1995 the retailer had 48 stores and a turnover of £105 million. Storehouse acquired the business from Boots in 1996.
