Children's Cancer Research Institute
The Greehey Children's Cancer Research Institute is a research center in San Antonio, Texas, US. The institute was established in 1999 under a $200,000,000 endowment from the State of Texas tobacco settlement, at the time the largest single oncology endowment in US history. The $50 million facility was completed in 2004. The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UT Health San Antonio) is a public academic health science center in San Antonio, Texas. It is part of the University of Texas System. UT Health San Antonio is the largest health sciences university in South Texas. It is located in the South Texas Medical Center and serves San Antonio and all of the area of Central and South Texas. The South Texas Medical Center (STMC) or Bexar County Hospital District consists of of medical-related facilities on the northwest side of San Antonio, Texas, United States. STMC, which directly serves 38 counties, consists of forty-five medically related institutions; separate medical, dental and nursing schools, five higher educational institutions, twelve hospitals and five specialty institutions. These facilities combined currently total over 4,200 patient beds. In 2009, STMC was home to more than $350 million in construction projects. More than $1 billion in new construction projects are currently planned through 2014.
