San Francesco d'Assisi is a Baroque style, Roman Catholic church located on via San Francesco d'Assisi in Turin, region of Piedmont, Italy. The church of San Rocco is on the same street. History A church on this site had been present since the 13th century, putatively erected by St Francis of Assisi himself. Construction of the present church began in 1602. In 1673, the main altar was reconstructed in marble. In 1761, the building was refurbished and a façade and some were added, based on designs by Mario Ludovico Quarini and Bernardo Vittone. Above the entrance portal is a large oval window and an interrupted cornice, with pinnacles on the roofline. The chapel of St Antony of Padua was designed also by Vittone. A further refurbishment occurred in 1863–1865. Rodolfo Morgari retouched the frescoes on the ceiling of the presbytery, and his pupil, Alberto Masoero, repainted the vault of the central nave. Bernardo Vittone
Parish Church of Grignasco Bernardo Antonio Vittone (19 August 1704 – 19 October 1770) was an Italian architect and writer. He was one of the three most important Baroque architects active in the Piedmont region of Northern Italy; the other two were Filippo Juvarra and Guarino Guarini. The youngest of the three, Vittone was the only one who was born in Piedmont. He achieved a synthesis of the spatial inventiveness of Juvarra and the engineering ingenuity of Guarini, particularly in the design of his churches, the buildings for which he is best known. Life and works Vittone was born in Turin into a mercantile family. He may have been introduced to architecture by his uncle, the architect Gian Giacomo Plantery and might have worked under Juvarra before departing for Rome. Federico Zuccari
Federico Zuccaro, also known as Federico Zuccari (c. 1540/1541August 6, 1609), was an Italian Mannerist painter and architect, active both in Italy and abroad. Biography Zuccaro was born at Sant'Angelo in Vado, near Urbino (Marche). His documented career as a painter began in 1550, when he moved to Rome to work under Taddeo, his elder brother. He went on to complete decorations for Pius IV, and help complete the fresco decorations at the Villa Farnese at Caprarola. Between 1563 and 1565, he was active in Venice with the Grimani family of Santa Maria Formosa. During his Venetian period, he traveled alongside Palladio in Friuli.
