Chhaya
Chhaya or Chaya ( sa, छाया, Chāyā, shadow' or 'shade) is the Hindu personification and goddess of shadow, and a consort of Surya, the Hindu sun god. She is the shadow-image or reflection of Saranyu (Sanjna), the first wife of Surya. Chhaya was born from the shadow of Sanjna and replaced Sanjna in her house, after the latter temporarily left her husband. Chhaya Devi the goddess of shadows is usually described as the mother of Shani, the planet Saturn, and the god of karma and justice: a feared ''graha''; goddess Tapti, the personification of river Tapti; goddess Vishti , the personification of Kala; and a son Savarni Manu, who is destined to be the next and eighth Manu (progenitor of mankind) – the ruler of the next ''Manvantara'' period. Chhaya is a city and a municipality in Porbandar district and Porbandar Taluka in the state of Gujarat, India. Geography Chhaya is situated on the west bank of the Porbandar creek and the Mokal Ran lies to the west of it. Demographics India census, Chhaya had a population of 38,525. Chhaya has an average literacy rate of 71%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with male literacy of 78% and female literacy of 62%. 12% of the population is under 6 years of age. According to the 1881 census it had 996 inhabitants. History It was the Jethva capital after the abandonment of Ranpur and previous to the adoption of Porbandar, and the old palace is still there. ''Chhaya'' (English: ''Shadow'') is a 1961 Bollywood film directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. The film stars Sunil Dutt, Asha Parekh, Nirupa Roy, Nazir Hussain in pivotal roles. Nirupa Roy won the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award. Music was composed by Salil Chowdhury. Plot Manorama (Nirupa Roy) comes to Lucknow along with her infant daughter after the death of her husband Shyamlal (Krishan Dhawan), searching for her maternal uncle. But when she finds that her uncle sold his house and has died, she becomes clueless and has nowhere to go. Moreover, her infant daughter becomes sick due to lack of food and shelter. Desperate to save her, Manorama leaves her at the gate of a wealthy man, Seth Jagatnarayan Chaudhary (Nazir Hussain). Jagatnarayan, having no children for himself, decides to adopt her and names her as Sarita. After few days, Manorama comes again as a nanny and settles with them. Chhaya Devi
Chhaya Devi ( bn, ছায়া দেবী; 3 June 1914 – 25 April 2001) was an Indian actress known for her work in Bengali and Hindi cinema. She appeared in hundreds of films for over five decades. Her first lead role was in Debaki Bose's Bengali film ''Sonar Sansar'' (1936). She rose to hall of fame for her role as Rani Lakshmi in Debaki Bose's ''Vidyapati'' (1937). Some of her notable films are such as ''Nirjan Saikate'' (1963), ''Hatey Bazarey'' (1967) and ''Apanjan'' (1968) by Tapan Sinha, ''Saptapadi'' (1961), '' Uttar Falguni'' (1963), ''Antony Firingee'' (1967), in Bengali, ''Alaap'' (1977) in Hindi, which also starred Amitabh Bachchan.
