Cherno More Motorway
The Cherno More motorway or the Black Sea motorway (, ) is a Bulgarian motorway planned to link the major coastal cities of Varna and Burgas, passing along the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast. It is part of the Pan-European Corridor VIII and is estimated to be 103 km (60 miles) long when finished. As of 2016, 10 km (6 miles) of the motorway are completed, from the Asparuhov bridge in Varna to the village of Priseltsi. The Cherno More motorway is expected to considerably shorten the journey between the two cities, since the traffic is slowed down significantly by the narrow passage of the Balkan Mountains between Nesebar and Obzor, especially during the summer season. As part of the Bulgarian motorway network, the motorway is to be linked with the Hemus motorway (A2) near Varna and with the Trakia motorway (A1) near Burgas, both leading to the capital Sofia. Highways in Bulgaria are dual carriageways, grade separated with controlled-access, designed for high speeds. In 2012, legislation amendments defined two types of highways: motorways (, ) and expressways (, ). The main differences are that motorways have emergency lanes and the maximum allowed speed limit is , while expressways do not and the speed limit is . As of October 2022, a total of 845.3 kilometers of motorways are in service. Generally, there are no toll roads in Bulgaria, and instead a vignette is required, except for municipal roads. Asparuhovo, Varna
Asparuhovo is a district of Varna. It is located in the southern part of the town and has a population of 27 000. In the district are located the Institute of Oceanology and the Bulgarian Ship Hydrodynamics Center, both part of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Asparuhovo is located south of Varna just over the bridge and is 20 mins from Varna Airport and the main centre of varna Asparuhovo is a district situated in the outskirts of Varna. Asparuhov Bridge
The Asparuhov most ( bg, Аспарухов мост) or Asparuhov Bridge is a bridge in Varna on the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria. It connects the Asparuhovo district to the rest of the city over the canals between the Black Sea and Lake Varna. The bridge is 2.05 km in length and 50 m in height, weighing 3,200 tons. It has 38 pairs of supports, each one capable of carrying 2,400 tons. The bridge experiences significant traffic, with 10,000 vehicles crossing it every day. The bridge's construction began in 1973 when the need for a larger canal to link Lake Varna and the sea became necessary. The initial launch date was set for 30 September 1976, but construction was ahead of schedule and finished on 8 September, when the bridge was opened in a ceremony by Todor Zhivkov.
