Chern Connection
In mathematics, a Hermitian connection \nabla is a connection on a Hermitian vector bundle E over a smooth manifold M which is compatible with the Hermitian metric \langle \cdot, \cdot \rangle on E, meaning that : v \langle s,t\rangle = \langle \nabla_v s, t \rangle + \langle s, \nabla_v t \rangle for all smooth vector fields v and all smooth sections s,t of E. If X is a complex manifold, and the Hermitian vector bundle E on X is equipped with a holomorphic structure, then there is a unique Hermitian connection whose (0, 1)-part coincides with the Dolbeault operator \bar_E on E associated to the holomorphic structure. This is called the Chern connection on E. The curvature of the Chern connection is a (1, 1)-form. For details, see Hermitian metrics on a holomorphic vector bundle. In particular, if the base manifold is Kähler and the vector bundle is its tangent bundle, then the Chern connection coincides with the Levi-Civita connection In Riemannian or pseudo Riemannian g ...

Hermitian Vector Bundle
In mathematics, a holomorphic vector bundle is a complex vector bundle over a complex manifold such that the total space is a complex manifold and the projection map is holomorphic. Fundamental examples are the holomorphic tangent bundle of a complex manifold, and its dual, the holomorphic cotangent bundle. A holomorphic line bundle is a rank one holomorphic vector bundle. By Serre's GAGA, the category of holomorphic vector bundles on a smooth complex projective variety ''X'' (viewed as a complex manifold) is equivalent to the category of algebraic vector bundles (i.e., locally free sheaves of finite rank) on ''X''. Definition through trivialization Specifically, one requires that the trivialization maps :\phi_U : \pi^(U) \to U \times \mathbf^k are biholomorphic maps. This is equivalent to requiring that the transition functions :t_ : U\cap V \to \mathrm_k(\mathbf) are holomorphic maps. The holomorphic structure on the tangent bundle of a complex manifold is guaranteed by t ...

Hermitian Metric
In mathematics, and more specifically in differential geometry, a Hermitian manifold is the complex analogue of a Riemannian manifold. More precisely, a Hermitian manifold is a complex manifold with a smoothly varying Hermitian inner product on each (holomorphic) tangent space. One can also define a Hermitian manifold as a real manifold with a Riemannian metric that preserves a complex structure. A complex structure is essentially an almost complex structure with an integrability condition, and this condition yields a unitary structure ( U(n) structure) on the manifold. By dropping this condition, we get an almost Hermitian manifold. On any almost Hermitian manifold, we can introduce a fundamental 2-form (or cosymplectic structure) that depends only on the chosen metric and the almost complex structure. This form is always non-degenerate. With the extra integrability condition that it is closed (i.e., it is a symplectic form), we get an almost Kähler structure. If both the almos ...

Complex Manifold
In differential geometry and complex geometry, a complex manifold is a manifold with an atlas of charts to the open unit disc in \mathbb^n, such that the transition maps are holomorphic. The term complex manifold is variously used to mean a complex manifold in the sense above (which can be specified as an integrable complex manifold), and an almost complex manifold. Implications of complex structure Since holomorphic functions are much more rigid than smooth functions, the theories of smooth and complex manifolds have very different flavors: compact complex manifolds are much closer to algebraic varieties than to differentiable manifolds. For example, the Whitney embedding theorem tells us that every smooth ''n''-dimensional manifold can be embedded as a smooth submanifold of R2''n'', whereas it is "rare" for a complex manifold to have a holomorphic embedding into C''n''. Consider for example any compact connected complex manifold ''M'': any holomorphic function on it is cons ...

Levi-Civita Connection
In Riemannian or pseudo Riemannian geometry (in particular the Lorentzian geometry of general relativity), the Levi-Civita connection is the unique affine connection on the tangent bundle of a manifold (i.e. affine connection) that preserves the (pseudo-)Riemannian metric and is torsion-free. The fundamental theorem of Riemannian geometry states that there is a unique connection which satisfies these properties. In the theory of Riemannian and pseudo-Riemannian manifolds the term covariant derivative is often used for the Levi-Civita connection. The components (structure coefficients) of this connection with respect to a system of local coordinates are called Christoffel symbols. History The Levi-Civita connection is named after Tullio Levi-Civita, although originally "discovered" by Elwin Bruno Christoffel. Levi-Civita, along with Gregorio Ricci-Curbastro, used Christoffel's symbols to define the notion of parallel transport and explore the relationship of parallel transp ...

Structures On Manifolds
A structure is an arrangement and organization of interrelated elements in a material object or system, or the object or system so organized. Material structures include man-made objects such as buildings and machines and natural objects such as biological organisms, minerals and chemicals. Abstract structures include data structures in computer science and musical form. Types of structure include a hierarchy (a cascade of one-to-many relationships), a network featuring many-to-many links, or a lattice featuring connections between components that are neighbors in space. Load-bearing Buildings, aircraft, skeletons, anthills, beaver dams, bridges and salt domes are all examples of load-bearing structures. The results of construction are divided into buildings and non-building structures, and make up the infrastructure of a human society. Built structures are broadly divided by their varying design approaches and standards, into categories including building structures, archi ...
