Chen Li (emperor)
Chen Li (; 1351–1408) was the second and the last emperor of the Chinese Chen Han dynasty. Chen Li ruled from 1363–64. Chen Han Chen Li was born in Mianyang ( now Xiantao, Hubei) as the second son of Chen Youliang, the first emperor of the Chen Han during the Yuan-Ming transition. His brother Chen Shan (), was a crown prince who joined the Ming army. In 1363, his father Chen Youliang was shot by an arrow in the Battle of Poyang Lake. His brother Chen Shan fled to the Ming. Later Zhang Dingbian () and other top generals protected Chen Li and his descendants, escorting Chen to Wuchang, where Chen changed he succeeded the throne and changed era name to Deshou (). In the winter of the same year, Zhu Yuanzhang personally visited Wuchang. Chen Li (scholar)
Chen Li (1810–1882) was a Cantonese scholar of the evidential research school, known for his contributions to historical Chinese phonology. Chen Li's family originally came from Shaoxing prefecture in Zhejiang province, moving to Nanjing in the early Ming dynasty. Chen's grandfather moved to Guangzhou, where his two sons remained after his death. Chen Li was the first in his family to register as a Guangzhou resident. He passed the provincial examination in 1832, but was unsuccessful in the imperial examination seven times. He also sat examinations at the Xuehaitang Academy in Guangzhou, headed by Ruan Yuan, and taught there as co-director for several decades from 1840. In his pioneering ''Qièyùn kǎo'' (切韻考 "An examination of the ''Qieyun''", 1842), Chen systematically analysed the pairs of characters (''fanqie'') used to indicate pronunciations of words in the ''Guangyun'', a Song dynasty redaction of the '' Qieyun'' dictionary published in 601. Chen Li (tennis)
Chen Li (born 13 March 1971) is a former professional tennis player from China. Career Chen, who comes from the city of Xiangtan in Hunan, played on the WTA Tour in the 1990s and won one title, the doubles at the 1994 China Open, with Li Fang as her partner. In 1996 she was runner-up in the singles at the Nokia Open in Beijing. En route to the final, which she lost to Wang Shi-ting, she accounted for three seeded players, Francesca Lubiani, Yayuk Basuki and Sandrine Testud. She competed as a wildcard at the 1997 Australian Open and was beaten in the first round by Natalia Medvedeva. A two-time Olympian, Chen represented China at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona and 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. At the Barcelona Olympics she lost in the first round to eventual bronze medalist Mary Joe Fernández. In Atlanta she competed in both the singles and doubles draws.
