Chatto (Apache)
Chato (Spanish nickname: "flat", Chatto or Chatta, 1854 – 13 August 1934) was a Chiricahua Apache subchief who carried out several raids on settlers in Arizona in the 1870s. His Apache name was Bidayajislnl or Pedes-klinje. He was a protege of Cochise, and he surrendered with Cochise in 1872 going to live on the San Carlos Reservation in southern Arizona, where he became an Apache Scout. Following his service as a scout he was taken prisoner after being coerced to travel to Washington, D.C. Chato was imprisoned in St. Augustine, Florida along with almost 500 other Apache at Fort Marion. Early life Chato was a first cousin to Mangas Coloradas. He married a Chokonen Apache woman and pledged his loyalty to Cochise. He wanted to ascend to Chief of the Warm Springs Apache following the death of Victorio, but was succeeded by Nana. Andrew Chatto (11 November 184015 March 1913) was an English book publisher who was renowned for the cordial relations he maintained with his authors. Early life Chatto was born on 11 November 1840 at 55 Pratt Street, Camden Town London. His parents were the author William Andrew Chatto (17991864) and Margaret Roberts (c. 1804April 1852). Chatto was 15 when he joined the book-selling business of John Camden Hotten (12 September 183214 June 1873). He was probably apprenticed to Hotten at his father's instigation. He began as a 'runner' at book auctions. Beth Chatto
Beth Chatto (27 June 1923 – 13 May 2018) was an English plantswoman, garden designer and author known for creating and describing the Beth Chatto Gardens near Elmstead Market in the English county of Essex. She wrote several books about gardening under specific conditions and lectured on this in Britain, North America, Australia, the Netherlands and Germany. Her principle of placing the right plant in the right place drew on her husband Andrew Chatto's lifelong research into garden-plant origins. Dominic Chatto Bashir Jamilu (born 7 December 1985) is a retired Nigerian football midfielder. He has played three times in Nigerian youth teams. Club career Chatto was born in Kaduna, Nigeria. Grace Chatto (born 10 December 1985) is an English musician and singer who is the cellist, backing vocalist and occasional main vocalist, for the electronic music band Clean Bandit. Tom Chatto (born Thomas Chatto St George Sproule; 1 September 1920 – 8 August 1982) was an English actor who made numerous appearances on television, film, and stage between 1957 and his death in 1982. Early life and career Chatto is a great-grandson of Andrew Chatto (1840–1913) the founder of the publishers Chatto and Windus. According to a London Palladium souvenir brochure from a 1970 production of ''Aladdin'', he was trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. During the war he was commissioned in the Indian Army. Virendranath Chattopadhyaya
Virendranath Chattopadhyaya ( bn, বীরেন্দ্রনাথ চট্টোপাধ্যায়), alias Chatto, (31 October 1880 – 2 September 1937, Moscow), also known by his pseudonym Chatto, was a prominent Indian revolutionary who worked to overthrow the British Raj in India using armed force. He created alliances with the Germans during World War I, was part of the Berlin Committee organising Indian students in Europe against the British, and explored actions by the Japanese at the time. He went to Moscow in 1920 to develop support by the Communists for the Indian movement, including among Asians in Moscow who were working on revolutionary movements.
