Charleston Southern Buccaneers Women's Basketball
The Charleston Southern Buccaneers women's basketball team is a basketball team that represents Charleston Southern University in North Charleston, South Carolina, United States. The school's team currently competes in the Big South Conference. History Charleston Southern began play in 1976. They joined the Big South Conference in 2000. They competed in the 2012 Women's Basketball Invitational, their first ever postseason appearance. They were beaten 80-51 by Minnesota in the First Round. As of the end of the 2015-16 season, the Buccaneers have an all-time record of 324-718. Charleston Southern University (CSU) is a private Baptist university in North Charleston, South Carolina. It is affiliated with the South Carolina Baptist Convention ( Southern Baptist Convention). History Charleston Southern University was chartered in 1960 and became the Baptist College of Charleston, where it offered its first classes in the education building of the First Baptist Church of North Charleston. The university offered the first instruction at a post secondary level in 1965 and awarded its first degree in 1967. Clarisse Garcia
Clarisse Garcia (born December 18, 1984) is an American basketball coach who is currently the head coach of the women's basketball team at Charleston Southern University. Playing career Garcia played basketball at Villanova from 2003 to 2007, where she was a walk-on player. During her time at Villanova, she was a three-time member of the dean's list, as well as a three-time Big East All-Academic member. Coaching career Garcia began her coaching career as a graduate assistant at Seton Hill University in Pennsylvania, before moving on to Stetson in 2009 as an assistant coach. Garcia was named the head coach at Palm Beach Atlantic University, a Division II school in Florida in May 2010. She compiled a 15–39 record in two seasons before she stepped down to take an assistant coaching position at Alabama in 2012. CSU Field House
Buccaneer Field House is an 881-seat multi-purpose arena in North Charleston, South Carolina. Called by many the Buc Dome, it is home to the Charleston Southern Buccaneers basketball teams. It is the second smallest arena in Division I basketball after the G. B. Hodge Center, and is one of two arenas used by the Buccaneers. For home games involving major conference teams or local opponents such as The Citadel or the College of Charleston, the team will play home games in the North Charleston Coliseum pending availability from South Carolina Stingrays hockey games. 2012 Women's Basketball Invitational
The 2012 Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI) was a single-elimination tournament of 16 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I teams that did not participate in the 2012 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament or 2012 Women's National Invitation Tournament. The 2012 bracket was announced on March 13, 2012. All games were hosted by the higher seed throughout the tournament, unless the higher seed's arena was unavailable. The championship game was hosted by the school with the higher end of the season RPI. Women's Basketball Invitational
The Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI) is a women's college basketball tournament created in 2009 by Sport Tours. The inaugural tournament occurred at the conclusion of the 2009–10 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. Selections for the WBI are announced on Selection Monday. Prior to the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic the field for the WBI consisted of a 16-team, single elimination divided into two regions with 8 seeded teams in each. The current format consists of 8 teams, all of which are guraranteed 3 games. Teams are picked based on NET, record, conference standings, end of year performance, and quality wins and losses, after the NCAA and WNIT fields are filled. Teams in the WBI traditionally competed on the home court of the higher seed; recent tournaments have been held at the Clive M. Beck Center in Lexington, Kentucky.
