Sir Charles James Jackson (2 May 1849 – 23 April 1923) was a British businessman, collector, barrister, newspaper executive, politician, and writer, who was an authority on antique gold and silver plate. Biography Jackson was born in Monmouth, the son of James Edward Jackson and his wife, Mary Ann Bass. The Jackson family owned a building company in Monmouth, but in 1860 removed to Cardiff. There, they established a successful business, designing and constructing buildings and investing in commercial property. Charles Jackson described himself as an architect. In 1879 he stood as an independent candidate for Roath ward on Cardiff Borough Council, but was not elected. Charles Jackson (1809–1882) was an English banker and antiquary. Life Born on 25 July 1809, he came from a family connected with Doncaster, where both his grandfather and his father were mayors. He was the third son of the large family of James Jackson, banker, by Henrietta Priscilla, second daughter of Freeman Bower of Bawtry; John Edward Jackson was an elder brother. In 1829, he was admitted to Lincoln's Inn and was called to the bar there in 1834. Jackson settled as a banker in Doncaster. He was treasurer of the borough from 1838 and trustee of a number of institutions, taking a large part in establishing the Doncaster Free Library. He suffered heavy losses in the bank failure of Overend, Gurney, & Co. Jackson died at Doncaster on 1 December 1882. By his marriage with a daughter of Hugh Parker of Woodthorpe, Yorkshire, he left four sons and four daughters. Charles Jackson (March 4, 1797January 21, 1876) was the 18th Governor of Rhode Island from 1845 to 1846. Early life Jackson was born in Providence, Rhode Island, on March 4, 1797, and was the son of Richard Jackson, Jr. He graduated from Brown University in 1817, and received a master's degree in 1820. He also studied law with James Burrill, Jr., and was admitted to the bar in 1820. Business career In addition to practicing law, Jackson was involved in several businesses, including a cotton manufacturing company. He also built a rubber factory after acquiring patent rights from Charles Goodyear. Jackson's ventures proved successful, and he later expanded into firearms as operator of the Burnside Rifle Works and a company that manufactured railroad equipment. Charles Jackson (31 May 1775 – 13 December 1855) was an American jurist. Biography He was born in Newburyport, Massachusetts. Jackson was the son of Newburyport merchant and Continental Congress Massachusetts delegate Jonathan Jackson and Hannah Tracy. He graduated from Harvard University in 1793, studied law with Chief Justice Parsons, and began to practice in 1796 at Newburyport. In 1803, he relocated to Boston, where, associated with Judge Hubbard, he had a most lucrative practice, probably more lucrative than any other in New England had been up until that time. Charles Edward Jackson (born May 22, 1993) is an American professional basketball player for the Hiroshima Dragonflies of the B.League in Japan. He attended Grant Union High School in Sacramento, California before attending and competing for three different colleges. College career Jackson was a standout freshman center at Lassen College in 2012–13, averaging 11.4 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game. He also averaged 12.2 points and tallied 21 double-doubles. Charles Herbert "Lefty" Jackson (February 7, 1894 – May 27, 1968) was an outfielder in Major League Baseball. He played for the Chicago White Sox and Pittsburgh Pirates. Jackson had been playing for the Bloomington Bloomers until his contract was sold to the Chicago White Sox in August 1915. He made his debut on August 20, 1915 as a pinch hitter for Lena Blackburne. He swung and missed at three pitches. He was returned to the Bloomers the following week after the White Sox acquired another outfielder named "Jackson": Shoeless Joe.
