Charles J. Otto
Charles J. Otto (born February 15, 1964) is an American politician and farmer serving as a Republican member of the Maryland House of Delegates representing district 38A since 2011. Early life and career Otto was born on February 15, 1964, in Salisbury, Maryland. He graduated from Washington High School and attended the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in animal science in 1986. Otto is a corn and soybean farmer. He previously worked as a sales representative and crop consultant for various organizations, including the William B. Tilghman Co. and the Maryland Farm Bureau, from 1987 to 1995. In the legislature Otto was elected to the House of Delegates in 2010, succeeding Carolyn J. Maryland's Legislative District 38 is one of 47 districts in the state for the Maryland General Assembly. It covers Somerset County, Worcester County and part of Wicomico County. The district is divided into three sub-districts for the Maryland House of Delegates: District 38A, District 38B and District 38C. Demographic characteristics As of the 2020 United States census, the district had a population of 131,889, of whom 107,520 (81.5%) were of voting age. The racial makeup of the district was 90,597 (68.7%) White, 26,691 (20.2%) African American, 472 (0.4%) Native American, 3,239 (2.5%) Asian, 32 (0.0%) Pacific Islander, 3,547 (2.7%) from some other race, and 7,303 (5.5%) from two or more races. Conowingo Dam
The Conowingo Dam (also Conowingo Hydroelectric Plant, Conowingo Hydroelectric Station) is a large hydroelectric dam in the lower Susquehanna River near the town of Conowingo, Maryland. The medium-height, masonry gravity dam is one of the largest non-federal hydroelectric dams in the U.S., and the largest dam in the state of Maryland. The dam sits about from the river mouth at the Chesapeake Bay, south of the Pennsylvania border and northeast of Baltimore, on the border between Cecil and Harford counties. The dam supports a 9,000-acre reservoir, which today covers the original town of Conowingo. During dam construction, the town was moved to its present location about northeast of the dam's eastern end. The rising water also would have covered Conowingo Bridge, the original U.S. Route 1 crossing, so it was demolished in 1927. U.S. Route 1 now crosses over the top of the dam.
