Charles Robert Darwin ( ; 12 February 1809 – 19 April 1882) was an English naturalist, geologist, and biologist, widely known for his contributions to evolutionary biology. His proposition that all species of life have descended from a common ancestor is now generally accepted and considered a fundamental concept in science. In a joint publication with Alfred Russel Wallace, he introduced his scientific theory that this branching pattern of evolution resulted from a process he called natural selection, in which the struggle for existence has a similar effect to the artificial selection involved in selective breeding. Charles Darwin (3 September 1758 – 15 May 1778) was the eldest son of Erasmus Darwin (1731–1802) and Mary Howard (1740–70), and was the uncle of the famous naturalist Charles Darwin, Charles Robert Darwin (though dying before his nephew's birth). He showed considerable promise while studying medicine at the University of Edinburgh, but died while still a student. Sir Charles Galton Darwin (19 December 1887 – 31 December 1962) was an English physicist who served as director of the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) during the Second World War. He was a son of the mathematician George Howard Darwin and a grandson of Charles Darwin. Early life Darwin was born at Newnham Grange in Cambridge, England into a scientific dynasty. He was a son of mathematician Sir George Howard Darwin and a grandson of Charles Darwin. His mother was Lady Darwin, Maud du Puy of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Squadron Leader Charles John Wharton Darwin DSO RAF (12 December 1894 – 26 December 1941) was a First World War flying ace credited with five aerial victories. Biography Darwin was the son of Col. Charles Waring Darwin CB DL JP (1855–1928) of Elston Hall, Nottinghamshire (a second cousin once removed of the famous naturalist Charles Darwin) and his wife Mary Dorothea (née Wharton), the only daughter of the Rt Hon. John Lloyd Wharton MP. He was educated at Winchester School and the RMC Sandhurst. Darwin served in France with the 2nd Battalion of the Coldstream Guards from 1914 to 1916. He then transferred to the Royal Flying Corps. His first assignment, to 27 Squadron, saw him flying a Martinsyde G.100. He then returned to England to instruct at the Central Flying School, Upavon, in 1917. When 87 Squadron was founded at Upavon in April 1918, Darwin led the effort. Colonel Charles Waring Darwin, CB, DL, JP (28 August 1855 – 1 August 1928) was a British soldier and landowner. Darwin was the son of Francis Darwin JP DL (né Rhodes) of Elston Hall, Nottinghamshire; his mother Charlotte Maria Cooper Darwin (1827–1885) was the daughter of William Brown Darwin of Elston (1774–1841). He was a second cousin once removed of the naturalist Charles Darwin, their shared ancestors (CWD's great-great-grandparents, CRD's great-grandparents), being Robert Darwin of Elston and his wife Elizabeth (née Hill). Charles Darwin National Park
Charles Darwin National Park is a national park in the Northern Territory of Australia, 4 km southeast of Darwin. It is notable for its World War II–era concrete bunkers, one of which has been converted into a visitors centre and display of World War II memorabilia. It also has lookouts towards the city of Darwin. It contains middens used by the Larrakia people. The park has extensive fire trails suitable for bush walking, as well as a mountain bike trail maintained by the Darwin Off-Road Cyclists Club. Charles Darwin Reserve
Charles Darwin Reserve is a nature reserve in the north east of the wheatbelt region of Western Australia. Description It is 90 km from Wubin and 355 km north of Perth. It lies largely within the Southwestern Botanical Province on the northern edge of the Wheatbelt, with northern parts of the reserve extending into the Eremean Province, and is owned and managed by Bush Heritage Australia (BHA), by which it was purchased and renamed in 2003. The purchase of the reserve was partly funded by a donation by Charles Darwin's great-great-grandson Chris Darwin. The reserve occupies an area of and was formerly part of the pastoral lease, Whitewells Station. Natural values The reserve has a semi-arid Mediterranean climate with an annual average, mainly winter, rainfall of 282 mm. Charles Darwin School is the only secondary school in the Biggin Hill area of the London Borough of Bromley, England. The school consists of 1,320 secondary and sixth form students. Currently the head teacher is Mr Aston Smith. The school has recently received a good in an October 2013 Ofsted inspection.
