Charles C. Auchincloss
Charles Crooke Auchincloss (September 24, 1881 – May 14, 1961) was an American lawyer and stockbroker. Early life Auchincloss was born on September 24, 1881, in New York City. He was one of eight children, seven sons and one daughter, born to Edgar Stirling Auchincloss (1847–1892) and Maria LaGrange ( Sloan) Auchincloss (1847–1929), who married in 1872. Among his siblings were Samuel Sloan Auchincloss, Hugh Auchincloss, U.S. Representative James C. Auchincloss, Gordon Aucincloss, and Reginald LaGrange Auchincloss. Among his uncles were Hugh Dudley Auchincloss (father of Hugh D. Auchincloss, Jr.) and John Winthrop Auchincloss (grandfather of Louis Auchincloss). His maternal aunt, Sarah Auchincloss, married Sir James Coats, 1st Baronet of the Scottish thread-manufacturing family, and they were the parents of Sir Stuart Coats, 2nd Baronet and British Member of Parliament. Endicott Peabody (educator)
The Reverend Endicott Peabody (May 31, 1857 – November 17, 1944) was the American Episcopal priest who founded the Groton School for Boys (known today simply as Groton School), in Groton, Massachusetts in 1884. Peabody also founded St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Ayer, Massachusetts, in October 1889. Peabody served as headmaster at the school from 1884 until 1940 and also served as a trustee at Lawrence Academy at Groton. In 1926, Peabody founded Brooks School, which was named for 19th-century clergyman Phillips Brooks, a well-known preacher and resident of North Andover, Massachusetts. Peabody was the headmaster for Franklin D. Roosevelt's time at Groton, and he officiated at Franklin's marriage to Eleanor Roosevelt, as well as those of their children. The Racquet and Tennis Club, familiarly known as the R&T, is a private social and athletic club at 370 Park Avenue, between East 52nd and 53rd Streets in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. History The Racquet Court Club opened in 1876 at 55 West 26th Street. It had two racquets courts, an indoor running track and two bowling alleys, but it did not have a tennis court. Piping Rock Club is a country club in Matinecock, New York. It falls within the ZIP Code boundaries of Locust Valley, New York. History The Piping Rock clubhouse was designed by American designer Guy Lowell and built in 1911. Lowell based his designs on American colonial architecture and a desire to link the house with the landscape. Most of the rooms open into a hall that surrounds an internal courtyard.
