''Chant'' is a compilation album of Gregorian chant, performed by the Benedictine monks of Santo Domingo de Silos in Spain. The performances were recorded perhaps as early as the 1970s, either in the province of Burgos or in Madrid, the Spanish capital. The music did not sell significantly until it was re-released by Angel Records in 1994 when it was strongly marketed as an antidote to the stress of modern life. ''Chant'' is the best-selling album of Gregorian chant ever released. It peaked at No. 3 on the ''Billboard'' 200 music chart, and was certified as double platinum, meaning two million copies were sold in the United States and four million worldwide. Gregorian Chant
Gregorian chant is the central tradition of Western plainchant, a form of monophonic, unaccompanied sacred song in Latin (and occasionally Greek) of the Roman Catholic Church. Gregorian chant developed mainly in western and central Europe during the 9th and 10th centuries, with later additions and redactions. Big Daddy is an American comedy rock band formed in Los Angeles, California. They were among the first groups to create mashups—in this case, of "oldies" music and modern pop songs. The members of the band are voice actors, best known for portraying the voices of the animals in ''Lincoln Park Zoo'', an animated short produced throughout the 1980s. EMI Classics was a record label founded by Thorn EMI in 1990 to reduce the need to create country-specific packaging and catalogues for internationally distributed classical music releases. After Thorn EMI demerged in 1996, its recorded music division became the EMI Group. Following the European Commission's approval of the takeover of EMI Group by Universal Music in September 2012, EMI Classics was listed for divestment. Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab (MFSL or MoFi) is a record label specializing in the production of audiophile issues. The company produces reissued vinyl LP records, compact discs, and Super Audio CDs and other formats. History Recording engineer Brad Miller (1939–1998) released the first recordings on the Mobile Fidelity label in March 1958, a recording of a Southern Pacific steam locomotive. Later LPs included other steam trains, environmental sounds and orchestral music, and a few pop and orchestral recordings. An audiophile is a person who is enthusiastic about high-fidelity sound reproduction.
