Chaffee is an unincorporated community in Cass County, North Dakota, United States. History A post office was established at Chaffee in 1894, and remained in operation until 1966. Chaffee County is a county located in the U.S. state of Colorado. As of the 2020 United States census, 2020 census, the population was 19,476. The county seat is Salida, Colorado, Salida. Lake Chaffee is a small, shallow, man-made lake located approximately northwest of the hamlet of Westford in the town of Ashford in Windham County, northeastern Connecticut. The lake has an area of and a maximum depth of . Its average surface elevation is above sea level. History Lake Chaffee was formed sometime prior to 1934 by damming a small stream named Chaffee Brook. Before the dam was built, wetlands existed where the pond is now. Description Lake Chaffee's inflows consist of several intermittent small streams and runoff, and its outlet is Chaffee Brook, which flows east to the Mount Hope River. Chaffee (crater)
Chaffee is a lunar impact crater that is located in the southern hemisphere on the far side of the Moon. It lies within the huge walled plain Apollo, and is one of several craters in that formation named for astronauts and people associated with the Apollo program. This basin is a double-ringed formation, and the crater Chaffee is situated across the southwest part of the inner ring. The ridge from this ring extends northward from the northern rim of Chaffee. This is a circular crater with an outer rim that has an uneven form due to multiple small outward bulges. The perimeter is only slightly worn, and retains a sharp rim that projects above the surroundings. Two notable craters are attached to the outer rim: Chaffee F to the west and Chaffee W along the northwest. Chaffee actually intrudes somewhat into the former crater, and the two share a common rim. Apollo 1 Hills
The Apollo 1 Hills are three hills on Mars named to memorialize the crew of Apollo 1. The three hills were some of the first landmarks sighted following the January 7, 2004, landing of the MER-A, ''Spirit'' rover on Mars. Background NASA astronauts Gus Grissom, Roger Chaffee, and Ed White (astronaut), Ed White perished in a flash fire which engulfed their Apollo command module, command module on January 27, 1967, while training for the first of the crewed Apollo missions, initially designated as Apollo Saturn-204 (AS-204).
