Chad Whitson
Chad Robert Whitson (born December 8, 1981) is an American umpire in Major League Baseball (MLB) who was hired to the full-time staff in 2019 and wears number 62. He was born in Dublin, Ohio. He made his MLB debut on May 15, 2014. He has also umpired in the Gulf Coast League, the Appalachian League, the South Atlantic League, the California League, the Eastern League, the International League, and the Arizona Fall League. Whitson ejected San Francisco Giants manager Gabe Kapler from a game on August 15, 2023, in which Whitson made a season-high 16 incorrect calls as the home plate umpire, as Kapler objected to Whitson's calls against rookie Wade Meckler who was playing his second game in the major leagues. William Scott Miller (born May 31, 1967) is an American Major League Baseball umpire who began his career in the American League in . Miller wears number 26. He has been a crew chief since the 2014 season. Early life Miller graduated from UCLA with a history degree in 1989. He umpired in the Northwest League, Arizona Instructional League, South Atlantic League, California League, Texas League, International League, and Pacific Coast League before reaching the MLB in 1997. Robert Paul Drake (born May 24, 1969) is an American umpire in Major League Baseball. He was named to the Major League staff in 2010, and wears uniform number 30. Umpiring career Drake was born in Indiana, Pennsylvania, and has worked in both Major Leagues since umpiring his first MLB game on September 3, 1999. Drake had previously worked in the Northwest, Midwest, Eastern, California and Pacific Coast leagues before reaching the MLB. Drake has also umpired winter baseball in the Dominican Republic, and officiated during the 2006 World Baseball Classic. Roberto Carlos Ortiz Maymi (born December 16, 1984) is a Puerto Rican Major League Baseball (MLB) umpire. He made his debut on May 14, 2016, becoming the first MLB umpire since Delfin Colon to have been born in Puerto Rico. He wears number 40, which was most recently worn by former umpire Jeff Gosney. The Wild Card Series (formerly known as Wild Card Game from 2012 to 2019 and in 2021) are games that serve as the opening round of the Major League Baseball (MLB) postseason. A single wild card game was first instituted in 2012; best-of-three playoff wild card series were adopted for the 2022 season. In baseball, the umpire is the person charged with referee, officiating the game, including beginning and ending the game, enforcing the rules of the game and the grounds, making judgment calls on plays, and handling the disciplinary actions. The term is often shortened to the colloquial form ump. They are also sometimes addressed as blue at lower levels due to the common color of the uniform worn by umpires. Gabriel Stefan Kapler (born July 31, 1975), nicknamed "Kap", is an American former professional baseball outfielder, and current manager of the San Francisco Giants of Major League Baseball (MLB). Wade Jameson Meckler (born April 21, 2000) is an American professional baseball outfielder for the San Francisco Giants of Major League Baseball (MLB). He played college baseball at Oregon State University. Meckler was drafted by the Giants in the eighth round of the 2022 MLB draft, and made his MLB debut with them the following year.
