Ceramic And Metal Arts Building
The School of Art + Art History + Design is in the Arts Division of the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Washington. The school offers undergraduate and graduate degrees. History Art has been taught at the University of Washington off and on since around 1890. The School of Art was established in 1935, and the name was changed to School of Art + Art History + Design in 2015. There have been eight directors of the school from 1935 to the present. The current director is Jamie Walker, who is also a Professor of 3D4M: ceramics + glass + sculpture. The school was one of the first to offer Master of Fine Arts degrees in the United States. Bill Holm (art Historian)
Oscar William Holm Jr. (March 24, 1925 – December 16, 2020) was an American art historian and author, focused on Indigenous Northwest Coast art. He created artworks and taught Northwest Coast style, including formline design. He was Professor Emeritus of Art History, and Curator Emeritus of Northwest Coast Indian Art at the Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture and occasionally lectured at the University of Washington in Seattle. Holm's 1965 book ''Northwest Coast Indian Art: An Analysis of Form'' has for decades been the standard introductory text in the field. Patti Warashina
Patti Warashina (born 1940) is an American artist known for her imaginative ceramic sculptures. Often constructing her sculptures using porcelain, Warashina creates narrative and figurative art. Her works are in the collection of the Museum of Arts and Design, New York, National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. George Tsutakawa
George Tsutakawa (February 22, 1910 – December 18, 1997) was an American painter and sculptor best known for his avant-garde bronze fountain designs. Born in Seattle, Washington, he was raised in both the United States and Japan. He attended the University of Washington, where, after serving in the U.S. Army during World War Two, he became a teacher. He rose to international prominence as a fountain designer in the 1960s and 1970s. Jenny E. Sabin (born 1974) is an American architect, designer and artist who draws upon biology and mathematics to design material structures. Sabin is the Arthur L. and Isabel B.
