The Centre for Medieval Studies at the University of Bergen, Norway was founded as a Centre of Excellence by the Research Council of Norway. It operated from 2002 to 2012. The organization's site defined its goal as: "to enhance our understanding of Europe as a whole, in the Middle Ages as well as today, from a peripheral point of view". Research Council Of Norway
The Research Council (also the Research Council of Norway; no, Norges forskningsråd) is a Norwegian government agency that funds research and innovation projects. On behalf of the Government, the Research Council invests NOK 11,9 billion (2021) annually. The Research Council is responsible for promoting basic and applied research and innovation. This is done by managing research funding and by advising the authorities on research policy, among other things through proposals for the research budget in the National Budget. Sverre Bagge
Sverre Håkon Bagge (born 7 August 1942 in Bergen) is a Norwegian historian. He took his doctorate with the thesis ''Den politiske ideologi i Kongespeilet'', published in 1979. From 1974 to 1991 he worked as an associate professor (''førsteamanuensis'') at the University of Bergen, and he became a professor there in 1991. Medieval Studies Research Institutes
In the history of Europe, the Middle Ages or medieval period lasted approximately from the late 5th to the late 15th centuries, similar to the post-classical period of global history.
