Centre Union
The Centre Union ( el, Ἕνωσις Κέντρου ''Énōsis Kéntrou'', abbreviated ΕΚ) was a major centrist political party in Greece, created in 1961 by Georgios Papandreou.Clogg, 1987, pp. 39–40 History The Centre Union was a political party in Greece in the 1960s which held office from 1963 to 1965 and was nominally in power from 1965 to 1967. The party was centrist, though elements of the far-right and the left also joined. The party fractured following its leader Georgios Papandreou's resignation after a disagreement with King Constantine II who clashed with Papandreou on how to handle the armed forces. Papandreou was succeeded by several shaky governments which relied on the votes of the opposition and defectors from the Centre Union. Centre Union – New Forces (EK-ND, Greek: ''Ένωσις Κέντρου-Νέες Δυνάμεις'' (Ε.Κ. – Ν.Δ.), ''Enosi Kentrou-Nees Dynameis'') was the continuation of the Centre Union party of George Papandreou after the military junta. It was the merger of a Centre Union fraction led by Georgios Mavros and the Movement of New Political Forces (KNPD). History In the elections of 1974, the party became the second largest of the country, after the conservative New Democracy. It obtained about 20% of the vote and 60 seats in the Hellenic Parliament. On February 5, 1976, the Centre Union – New Forces merged into the Union of the Democratic Centre led by veteran centrist politician George Zigdis. Their program for the elections of 1974 did not differ significantly from that of New Democracy; it included slogans concerning "participatory democracy", "checks imposed on capital (Greek or foreign) by the people", and so on. The Lithuanian Centre Union, or Centre Union of Lithuania ( lt, Lietuvos centro sąjunga, LCS), was a liberal political party in Lithuania that existed between 1993 and 2003. History It was established by the centre-fraction in Sąjūdis in 1990 as the Lithuanian Centre Movement. In 1992 parliamentary election the movement failed to pass 4 per cent threshold and won only 2 seats. In 1993 the movement was reorganised to party. In 1995 municipal elections the party entered many municipal councils and joined coalition with the Homeland Union and the Lithuanian Christian Democratic Party. In 1996 parliamentary election the party won 8.67 per cent of the votes and 14 seats. It signed agreement of confidence and supply with the Homeland Union and the Lithuanian Christian Democratic Party. in 1997 presidential election the Centre Union supported Valdas Adamkus, who won election.
