77 North Front Street
77 North Front Street is a municipal office building of Columbus, Ohio, in the city's downtown Civic Center. The building, originally built as the Central Police Station (of the current-day Columbus Division of Police) in 1930, operated in that function until 1991. After about two decades of vacancy, the structure was renovated for city agency use in 2011. The building was included in the Columbus Civic Center Historic District, nominated to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. Attributes The original building was designed by the Allied Architects Association of Columbus in the Second Renaissance Revival style. In accordance with that style, the building has a rusticated first floor facade, a projecting cornice above the fifth floor, and unadorned floors between. The overall style was intended to match the neighboring Columbus City Hall and Joseph P. Kinneary United States Courthouse. The former Central Police Station of Hong Kong, located at the eastern end of Hollywood Road, in Central, Hong Kong has been redeveloped into a cultural and shopping destination generally called Tai Kwun (). Tai Kwun is composed of three declared monuments: the former Central Police Station, former Central Magistracy and Victoria Prison. History The oldest structure within the police station was built in 1864; a three-storey barrack block constructed adjacent to Victoria Prison. A storey was later added to the block in 1905. Other blocks were added between 1910 and 1925. In 1919, Headquarters Block facing Hollywood Road was constructed. Subsequently, in 1925, the two-storey Stable Block was constructed at the north-west end of the parade ground and later used as an armoury. Central Police Station, Bristol
The Central Police Station, also known as the Bridewell is a historic building on Nelson Street, Broadmead, Bristol, England. It was opened in 1828 and finally closed in 2005. It is a grade II listed building. History Prior to the construction of the present building, the Central Police Station had been located in Bridewell Street. In 1880, the watch committee were involved in the setting up of an independent fire brigade and a site was chosen adjacent to the police station. A steam fire engine was purchased and arrangements were made to stable the horses needed to pull the fire engine in the yard of the police station. The Nelson Street building was built in 1928 by Ivor Jones and Percy Thomas and opened as a police station in November 1930 near the site of a previous station. Sydney Central Police Station, 7–9 Central Street, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, is a police station with attached holding cells that operated in association with the Central Local Court House, Sydney, for nearly 100 years. Description The police station is located at the rear of the Court House, with access from Central Street. The rendered brick building features an 'L' shape plan with wrought iron balconies in the inner angle. The roofline rakes back from the external walls on a single pitch with galvanised gutters and downpipes. The internal facades of the building are plain rendered brick but the facade to Central Street is broken into three bays with the centre bay recessed, featuring pilasters and entablatures in a simplified classical style.
