Central Park Luas Stop
Central Park ( ga, An Pháirc Láir) is a stop on the Luas light-rail tram system in Dún Laoghaire - Rathdown, south of Dublin, Ireland. It opened in 2010 as a stop on the extension of the Green Line south from Sandyford to Brides Glen. Location and access The stop is located adjacent to a business park of the same name. Leopardstown Park Hospital is on the other side of the stop, and Leopardstown Racecourse and Kilmacud Crokes GAA are also within walking distance. The stop has two entrances: the northbound platform opens directly onto a public plaza in the centre of the business park, and a specially built pathway connects the southbound platform to an unnamed road leading to the hospital. To the south of the stop, the tram line slopes upwards, then passes the business park's car park on a viaduct which then takes the line over the M50 motorway. Green Line (Luas)
The Green Line () is one of the two lines of Dublin's Luas light rail system. The Green Line was formerly entirely in the south side of Dublin city. It mostly follows the route of the old Harcourt Street railway line, which was reserved for possible re-use when it closed in 1958. The Green Line allows for passenger transfers at O’ Connell GPO and Marlborough to Luas Red Line services and also allows commuters to use Broombridge as an interchange station to reach outer suburbs such as Castleknock and Ongar. The Green Line from St Stephen's Green to Sandyford launched on 30 June 2004. An extension to the Bride's Glen stop at Cherrywood was opened on 16 October 2010. Luas
Luas (pronounced ; Irish for "speed") is a tram/ light rail system in Dublin, Ireland. There are two main lines: the Green Line, which began operating on 30 June 2004, and the Red Line which opened on 26 September 2004. Since then, both lines have been extended and split into different branches further out of the city. The two lines, as of 2017, now intersect and connect within Dublin city centre. The system now has 67 stations and of revenue track, which in 2018 carried 41.8 million passengers, an increase of 11.2% compared to 2017. Luas is operated by Transdev, under tender from Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII). Sandyford Luas Stop
Sandyford ( ga, Áth an Ghainimh) is a stop on the Luas light rail tram system in Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown, south of Dublin, Ireland which serves the nearby suburb of Sandyford. It opened in 2004 as the southern terminus of the Green Line, which re-uses the alignment of the Harcourt Street railway line which closed in 1958. Sandyford Luas stop is located on the same site as a station on the old line called Stillorgan. History Railway station (1854–1958) The Harcourt Street railway line was and opened by the Dublin and Wicklow Railway in 1854, running from a temporary terminus at Harcourt Road near the city centre to Bray with Stillorgan was originally one of four intermediate stops on the line. Brides Glen Luas Stop
Brides Glen ( ga, Gleann Bhríde) is a stop on the Luas light-rail tram system in Dún Laoghaire - Rathdown, south of Dublin, Ireland. It opened in 2010 as the terminus of an extension of the Green Line south from Sandyford. Location and access Brides Glen stop is located at the end of a concrete viaduct over an empty plot of land. The sole entrance is to the road which runs past the southern end of the stop. Ramps provide access from the entrance to each of the side platforms. The short space between the platforms and the road contains buffers, a flower bed, electrical substations, and toilet for Luas drivers. There is a double crossover on the tracks immediately to the north of the stop. Leopardstown Hospital ( ga, Ospidéal Pháirc Bhaile na Lobhar) is a publicly funded hospital in Foxrock, Dublin, Ireland offering healthcare to elderly patients and war veterans. History The house and grounds were donated in trust in 1917 to found a hospital for wounded and invalided members of the British Armed Forces. Ireland was part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and involved in the First World War. Leopardstown Racecourse
Leopardstown Racecourse is an Ireland, Irish horse-racing venue, located in Leopardstown, Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown, 8 km south of the Dublin city centre. Like the majority of Irish courses, it hosts both National Hunt and Flat racing. The course, built by Captain George Quin and modelled on Sandown Park Racecourse in England, was completed in 1888 and acquired by the Horse Racing Ireland, Horse Racing Board of Ireland in 1967. Many important races are held here and racing takes place all year round, with about 22 meetings per year. Kilmacud Crokes ( ir, Cill Mochuda Na Crócaigh) is a large Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Stillorgan, Dublin, Republic of Ireland. Background Kilmacud GAA club was formed in 1959 following a historic public meeting in Saint Laurence's Hall, where Stillorgan shopping centre now stands. The first meeting of the club took place on 12 March 1959. Sixty people attended the meeting and donated a shilling each, meaning the club made IR£3.30 on the night. The club decided to use green-and-white jerseys, but they later decided to use the gold-and-purple colours, some say because of the local school Scoil Lorcain Naofa who also use gold and purple, others say it was because blue are the colours of the crocus. The M50 motorway ( ga, Mótarbhealach M50) is a C-shaped orbital motorway in Dublin and the busiest motorway in Ireland. The current route was built in various sections over the course of 27 years, from 1983 to 2010.
